I have been checking our area for it.I haven't found any dead deer yet.Hope it stays that way.
I have covered a lot of different areas up here.
 
Well I know on my property I am filling the water holes wit fresh water. While I haven't seen the HD effects my cousin has in SD during a really dry season so I will kee the water full.

I heard last night about a guy with a 1500 acre farm in Perry county - he has found 43 dead deer on it. That is a whole herd

I was informed yesterday that our neighbor found 13 dead bucks while bushhogging along a spring he has. 3 of them were apparently giants. My hopes for this year are fading fast
 
I don't see how a major outbreak will be avoided this year. I can't remember going this long without rain and the 90 degree days are still going.
 
Haven't seen anything to be concerned about. EHD happens every year. Sounds like Hickman is having a pretty bad year, that sucks

I have heard bad reports in our area of Hickman. Twenty plus close to my place.. I only found 1 dead doe in the creek on one lease, none on the other.. My camera surveys show no real change in density.

Will it take a frost to end it or do you think we are now in the clear with rain and cooler temps, plus more coming?

They say it will take a frost or two. However, what the rain we received did was put ample amount of water in many different areas, including vegetation (where deer get a lot of their hydration from). Hence, they will not be congregated around single sources of water where the majority of the midges thrive - they will be scattered getting their water from various sources. Also, yes - the cooler temps tend to hamper the flies, in general. If the deer could of just made it until now, I don't think we would have seen that big of a die off. I would suspect that the majority of deer that haven't died by now or that haven't contracted EHD by now, will make it and be fine - that is just my opinion.
