where did you find it? if it is near a road, are you sure it was not hit?
I have found them on Priest whole, but most times it is where someone lost the trail and lost the deer.
One time I did find two laying side by side in the woods there, it was pretty obvious that they were dumped.
We had so many dumped on the road at our lease one year that the news showed up. It was on the front page of the local paper. Most was whole guts and all and a few had their heads cut off! I believe there was around 20 scattered around when the news showed up.

I just...I just don't understand how someone could throw away a deer carcass. I've taken one from beside the road before. And, then, so many that the news gets involved....serial idiot? They must have never had bacon wrapped backstrap. Ugh.
The pic above looks like someone deboned the hams and took the back strips while it was hanging. If you cut the meat off the bones will stay together like that. That would also explain why the hide stops on the legs just above the knuckles.
Wanton waste should be illegal in TN but isnt except for waterfowl. I found 5 on the side of road near Priest WMA and bucks had antlers cut off and backstrips only. Does had hams and backstrips removed. Everything else left. Sad part is these deer were killed 2 weeks before juvenile hunt so these were illegally shot. Reported the incident with no follow-up from law enforcement. Real shame.
