This Morning...

I helped a friend (super nice guy-non-hunter bordering anti) post a 10-acre piece of property he just bought. It is behind his house and joins his back yard.

In the course of putting a tyveck sign every 20 feet or so, we found several trees that had been marked with bright eyes and one nice Gorrila stand.

he is going to do some selective cutting and open up the canopy. It is mostly mature hardwoods and just beautifull. He gave me permission to come take pictures anytime I wanted. Then, told me about the really big 10-point he has been feeding behind his house.

I wish I knew how to gracefully get my stand back That is a joke. As the crow flies, he lives about 500-yards from me and we see the same deer. Exceot for the 10-point. I haven't seen that one.

I have found those same people many times don't know the difference between a 10 point and a 6 point...probably why you ain't seen hide nor hair of him .

What did he think about someone hanging a stand there?!

He thought the stand was his so he took it down and put it in a safe place. He also moved all the bright eyes to a pill bottle I have in my truck.

I think that is a great way to handle things. Glad he found "his" stand!!

If he is an ethical hunter he has touched base with the landowner this summer before the season to make sure it is still OK for him/her to hunt.

Stand freshly hung, could tell by the fresh trimming. Property changed hands about two months ago and was gated on the only access road with four large posted signs on the gate posts.

As far as I can determine, noone has ever had pernmission to hunt there. It is in a subdivision totally surrounded by houses and the land had been tied up in an estate thingie. The current owner, my friends, has had feeders on the property for over two years. He refills them weekly. Almost anywhere you hunt, you would be hunting over bait.
