The buck I killed during MZ was not a TN stud, but this guy IS a TN stud! Look at the neck on this 5 1/2 year-old buck!

Does he make you want to go back to hunting big bucks? Bet your on your way to Bass Pro right now to get the latest Scent-Lok gear, Knight & Hale's Da Bonehead rattling system, a little Code Blue, some fresh earth scent wafers, some ozonics gear, and an Under Armour hat just to cover your bases.

Yep, that "TN Stud" would do Doc Watson proud, good luck with him!

One of our guys killed a 207 lb buck yesterday evening that we did not have on camera. They are definately shifting.

Oh, I'll be hunting him during gun season, for sure. But my odds of seeing him during daylight are near zero! :(

We hunted him last year when he was 4 1/2 and never saw him. In fact, I got a grand total of 1 picture sequence of him during daylight. So far, no pictures of him at 5 1/2 during daylight, even though I've already picked up almost a dozen picture sequences of him (all near midnight).

Here he is from last year. He's grown a few changes to his rack (he was a 9-point last year), but a couple of unique characteristics identify him:

I know its off topic but i know a worthless individual who was getting a 160" deer all at night. He set 2 flash cams up facing each other and hunted at night for that deer. He ended up killing the deer with a bow supposedly right at dark one evening but ive had my doubts since. Amazing what deer will do to some people. And he's the quickest one to turn someone else in or bad mouth someone else for doing wrong! To top it off he's a preacher.

rem270, as a pastor myself the person described in your post shames me for my profession.

I think it just goes to prove what I tell people all the time: "Big bucks make normally reasonable people lose their minds." Think you know someone? Put them in an ethically questionable situation involving their potential to kill a 150+ buck, and THEN see what they do.

BSK do you feel this time of year with swelling of the necks of rutting bucks cause some miss conseption in the aging of mature deer ?
Awesome deer no doubt !!

First, bucks' necks don't "swell." That is pure muscle development. Bucks are not like human males that have fairly constant hormone levels throughout the year. Male white-tailed deer experience extreme changes in male hormone production in fall, and almost a complete lack of male hormone production in winter. The huge surge of male hormones bucks experience in fall cause sudden and massive muscle development, just like a weightlifter taking huge doses of steroids.

Second, the body conformation aging process is designed around bucks in full rut. That's why it is so difficult to age bucks outside of the rut--because the criteria were developed based on how bucks' bodies look in full rut.
