BSK, got a question for ya: why do turkeys, raccoons, rabbits, possums, squirrels frequent salt licks. Is salt just a mineral that all the animal kingdom likes/craves? I know horses, cows, sheep like salt. But possums, turkeys, coons???

I think all non-reptiles/amphibians need salt in their diet. Salts are actually critically important to many biological functions.

Fall turkey hunting in your area? They have a habit of disappearing just before hunting season. I think they have spies in the TWRA.
