I've been looking around for a new round to tinker with and I am pretty loyal to the .30 cals. I have a .300 RUM and a .308. I got to looking at some reloading pages on the .300 H&H. From what I found it will push the 200gr and up bullets about 100fps faster than the .300WM due to a more efficient case design. I've been wanting another LR rig for some comp shooting. I will be running the 208 AMAX or 210 Bergers/Sierra. Probably a 26" tube but not sure. Maybe this young buck can bring back some memories for the mature bucks lol.

You sir are correct. The case length is 3.6" long. The RUM case is 2.850" long. I would have to use a R700 action made for a .338 Lapua as they are longer than a normal R700 long action. Finding one will be a pain. The easy thing to do will be to order a Stiller TAC338 action.

I think the H&H and RUM case length is the same,,and I think the 700 300 RUM action and 338 Lapua action are the same length..

but to load a 210 in the H&H with the long tapered neck will probably put the OAL of the H&H way out there,,it might fit a Wyatts box made for the 338 Lapua /300 RUM/338 Edge

but done right I am sure it would be a very accurate rifle,,but I bet case lief would suck,,

Oh and my .300 RUM has an action off of a Sendero that was chambered in 7RM. The actions are the same its just the bottom of the raceway has to be milled a couple thousandths to accommodate the fatter case.

it`s not the presure that ruins the H&H case,,its the extreme taper and lack of a decent neck,,it`s neck is tapered so much it has to headspace of the belt,,which is why the belt was put on the case,,it had nothing to do with makin the case stronger,,it had to headspace of the belt,,which leads to a lot of case stretch,

my brother has a 300 and 375 H&H,,both are tack drivers but he throws brass away after 3 loadings,,

the 338 Win Mag case necked to 30cal was one of the best designs in 1000 yard benchrest for years in the 50`s 60`s and 70`s,,with a regular Magnum action the dimensions are near perfect for everything to fit with the bullet loaded to the correct depth,,and it performs real close to 300 Win Mag,

very similar to the 308 Norma Mag

Rethinking my situation here a bit. My RUM is at the smith right now hopefully I'll have it back before I go to BCT in Sept. I really don't need another .30 cal right now. I'd like to have a .338 Edge but I really don't have a spot to shoot past 1200 right now.
