A standard barrel 10/22 will shoot better than me outta the box, but that didn't stop me from putting a bull barrel on mine. They are great rifles and there are a million accessories/upgrades for them. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend adding one to the safe. :)

x2. Get the 10/22T w/stainless spiral bull barrel. 25 dollar trigger/buffing job and get the trigger down to at least 2lbs and you got it

Yep and as others have said just get an experienced somebody to buff that trigger out and your set. My bro in law just got one a year or so ago. We were hitting coke cans at 70ish yards with open sights. no bs...great rifle.
 
You can spend more than most of us can afford on tricking out a 10-22. I built 2 or my son as birthday and Christmas presents. I ended up with just over $1300 in the Christmas present.
 
Just amazed. I never knew you could trick these things out THAT much. For that money I would just pump it into an AR....Hmmm

Will probably for now just keep the 10/22 simple, but get a bunch of ammo and lots of the Butler Creek 25round mags., offset Warne ramp, scope, red dot, bipod.....Crap, there I go again!
 
I bought my first 10/22 from Service Merchandise back in the mid 80's. I shot the mess out of that rifle before fixing it up a little. I just went with a Butler Creek Fluted Bull Barrel and a Hogue rubberized stock. I also went with a plain jane 3x9x32 Simmons Deerfield Scope. I didn't go overboard, but I wanted to be able to put it behind the seat of my truck, scabbard on my 4-wheeler or just carry it anywhere in the woods and not worry about scratching it. I have thought of one of the newer up to date stocks, but I am happy with the way it looks and shoots. I did buy a second 10/22 that was brand new from someone that had won it in a raffle. I still need to sight it in. I will probably keep this one original.
