The new Sig 556 has peaked my interest. Its not really an AR, its very ARish with more of an AK's inner workings that uses AR mags. Its hard to go wrong with any of the ones listed above.

my Brother has a Bill Wilson that will shoot with any Rem Varmint rifle

I been thinking about the Remington in 204,,I wish someone I knew had one so I could shoot one before buying something a manufactor has just started making...

Bushmaster makes the Remington version. Personally I'd go with the less expensive of the two since they are made by Bushmaster. Remington, IMO, will add a couple hundred to the final price.

When any market gets flooded with brands that are all equal in technolgy price will make the choice. I think I am going with Double Star.
 
All are about the same. You'll pay more for the Colts, and a little less than average for double star/ bushmaster. I would recommend Rock River Arms or DPMS. Either way, make sure all parts you add on are mil-spec, so that you'll be able to interchange. Also, you'll want to add some picatinny rails to the barrel so that you can add all the extras on later. I finished my first last week (Rock River Arms, 5.56mm). Now I'm starting a new AR15 project in 9MM.

One of the best way to get the good stuff for cheap is to look at midwayusa.com and monitor the stuff you want to buy (if you plan on assembling it yourself). Midwayusa.com runs very good specials on all their parts from time to time.

By the way, if you want the cadillac of parts for your add ons, go with LaRue Tactical. Of course, you probably arent worrying about add ons yet... but you will once you get a base rifle.

Not for sure but didn't Remington buy up DPMS ? I read that somewhere I thought.
 
Not all inclusive, and a few brands have had more than one manufacturer cut their receivers. Many companies receive CMT and LMT cuts in the white and finish them themselves. I have not seen a LAR or MMS cut that was finished by a third party company.

LMT = LMT, Lauer(old), DS Arms, PWA, Eagle, Knights Armament, Barrett, Bushmaster (?)
CMT = Stag, RRA, High Standard, Noveske (old), Century (current), Global Tactical, CLE, S&W, MGI (1st batch), Wilson Tactical, (some?) Colt, Ratworx
LAR = Grizzly, Bushmaster (L Prefix), Ameetech, (?)DPMS, CMMG, Double Star, Fulton, Spike's Tactical, Noveske (new)
MMS = Mega, Gunsmoke, Dalphon, POF (forged), Alexander Arms, Stinger, Spike's Tactical(old)

Nope, Bushmaster makes the Remington verson.
 
When I got interested in the civilian AR a time ago I asked a good friend who had been building them what he liked...he simply stated CRAB-D. I asked what? He said Colt, Rock River, Armalite, Bushmaster, DPMS! I asked why? He said they are the only makers that use forged aluminum in the manufacture of the upper and lower receivers. He also said that after the Bushmaster lawsuit following the D.C. Sniper case that Bushmaster paid dearly for that Colt started making it's pivot, take-down, and trigger pins a different size. I for one own several Bushy and RRA lowers that I assembled into complete rifles. I trust them with my life. I wouldn't trust a injection cast and cooled Olympic arms with any other than a ringer at a horse-shoe tournament.
