Thinking about a kayak..

Thinking about getting a used beater kayak that I can put a trolling motor on.. what is a good stable one to get? It's just for a local creek, maybe 6'deep..

Never owned one but seems I read good things about Jackson kayaks.

Just remember that a trolling motor means you have to register it. Jackson, as mentioned, as well as Hobie are quality. I bought a couple of Lifetime kayaks for "guests" and they seem to be just fine for occasional use. The Lifetimes are sit inside and I have 2 Hobies that are sit on top.

I own 3 Jackson's. Made in Sparta.

3 Big Rigs. As stable as they get. 3" wide, 13' long. I stand and fish all the time.

My brother owns 2. Coosa and Coosa HD.

He's s fan also.

I have a Jackson Kilroy. Love fishing from it. I need to take it out when it gets warmer and see if I can still get in and out of it. Lol Also have a Bass Hunter plastic boat I haven't used in a while.

The most important thing you need to look at is the weight capacity of the kayak, and whether or not the capacity includes the kayak weight. Simple example: 400 lb capacity -Kayak Weight 100 lb=300 lb, then minus the kayaker 150 lbs= 150 lbs remaining, -30 lbs for motor and another -30 for battery= That will leave you rough 90 lbs for gear etc...

Its also beneficial to watch FB Market Place and Craigslist this time of year. You can generally get a loaded fishing Kayak for 1/4 to 1/3 of new price, and some already have motors.

There's several kayaks that will meet your needs, but think I have settled on a Jackson Coosa for our local streams, as my Knarr is to big and heavy for most of them.

No. They come on automatically when you go into levitation mode.

It's an Ascend FS12T (Bass Pro brand). I modified the seat to sit up higher.

i need to figure out how to mount a seat on mine. my back aches like #$@% after sitting in it for a half hour or so. :confused: ran into a guy last summer that took two 'yaks & made a small pontoon boat to fish from with a folding chair to sit in... yeah, i was jealous.
