Thieves strike again

4 cameras and a summit treestand in a year it's starting to get to where I'm not looking forward to deer season but instead looking forward to hunting a thief,This time however they stole a spy point and the other they couldn't get off the tree so they beat the lense out and the camera was laying out of the case on the ground,memory card still in it but no pic of them.These 2 cameras was not easy access in thickets on different areas of the farm,last pic was 5|20 and I had not checked them in a month so I was looking forward to seeing what activity I had gotten.I don't even know how they would of found both cameras in the areas they were in or what they would of been doing in a thicket like the thickets these two particular cameras were in unless I've got a pot grower sharing this piece of ground.I've always respected every ones stuff no matter what I've came across but I hope I get the chance to run across this individual and us in the woods.

That is horrible. However I would no longer put cameras out, its a shame you have to do that though.

You need to put a camera back In the same spot then climb up a nearby tree and put a camera facing the other one. Make sure it's well hidden and that you can't get to it unless you were a monkey or had a ladder. That way hopefully you can get a picture of the face you need so smash in.

Coon hunters

And before I get blasted for saying that, I'm not of the belief that all coon hunters are bad. I know dozens and have hunted with a bunch of different coon hunters.

However, the stories I hear about the bad ones and what they damage, steal and shoot all the while tresspassing will send shivers down your spine and messing with cameras is the #1 thing I hear. They don't want to be caught.

And it's a very small percentage of coon hunters that do it. I hope this doesn't get took the wrong way.

I've had two cameras & two stands stolen off private land over the years. I was amazed the thieves found one stand & one camera. They were in serious thickets far from a border.
It pisses me off and makes me cynical toward fellow hunters.

I can't stand thieves! I had a tree stand stolen a few years ago and ever since then I've been cautious every time I leave anything in the woods. I hope you catch them!

I think they find the cameras by watching for a flash at night. So if you have one low and one high be sure the high is way high.

Im wondering who would be out in the woods this time of year....hunters setting mineral sites and trail cams....my opinion its a neighboring hunter who has been scouting you out and knows your patterns one cam i can believe but 4!!!! I had my first cam taken by rabbit hunters and learned my lesson...dont set cams during hunting seasons on public land....

I hate a thief. The best cure is to rig one with an exploding device that will end their thieving career on the spot but we know that can't be done. I think one of the worst parts of losing something like this to a thief is that originally, you put it out and returned in anticipation only to find it gone. Forever more, you'll be skeptical anywhere you use one and I hate that cloud hanging over my head.

This isn't public land,neither is it easy access,Someone said they might of needed to feed their family,taken from someone else isn't the way to do it.I work hard to get what small pleasures I can afford and if i'd seen them coon hunting or what ever this time of year I wouldn't of said much but now game on,This might be wrong but I'll burn the tires off their truck if i catch it parked there and wait on them to say something.Alot of you know when you make 10 to 11 dollars a hour you don't recover from something like that specially when someone else decided they would destroy the ones they couldn't get off the tree.The summit they took was my kids Christmas present ,the spy point cameras was his birthday present,now they've left a very angry dad to put it nice. I got saved 2 years ago but... forgiveness just goes so far,don't like no thief,if you need something and i've got it and can help,I'll give it to you but when you start just helping your self that's another story...

Not a laughing matter,hope it turns up.Hunting is expensive enough for us all,not counting the countless hours some try to put in even before season ,just to have someone up to no good ruin the day and I guess the summer as far as trail cams go.

Ya hard to eat a camera or treestand but joke was on me :bash: not in a laughing mood but nothing toward you guys just need a good 5 years to forget about it lol

I lost a double tree stand a couple of years ago. It was in an area on private land that I didn't figure anyone would go through because it was very difficult going. It took 3 of us to get it in there and set up. It was log chained to a tree at the top and bottom. Whoever got it really had to work for it, and I don't mean a little bit. They had to huff and puff and WORK for it, especially to get it out of that valley. It would make them as tired as putting in a long, hot day at any outdoors job.

But I learned... don't put out anything that you plan on keeping, or are dependent on.

Ever since then I've been using those RiversEdge pack-n-stack ladder stands that you backpack in. It weighs about 30 lbs and takes about 2-3 minutes to assemble and you're up the tree hunting. When you leave the stand goes with you.
The best part, and I mean the really BEST part of carrying your stand in and out is that no one is using your scouting and knowledge of the land to hunt out of your stand.
When I used to use fixed stands, I could always tell when someone else was hunting out of my stand. I put a lot of time and effort in having a stand in just the right place. To have someone else that's too lazy to do their own work to find deer bothered me a lot more than a missing stand.

January and February of this year I had three of my Montana special foothold traps and two dogproof coon traps stolen. I've got about $35 a piece in the footholds and $15 in the coon cuffs plus one of the traps had a bobcat that could've brought around $100. Thieves suck!!!

Set up a camera trap at the entry and exit points of your property that will catch the license plate as well as a camera that monitors your bait/decoy camera. I have done this and it worked out well.

I would love to cram paint bombs in all my bad cameras and put them where they can see them from the road and let them have all they want . I AM SICK OF LOOSING CAMERAS

Bought two cameras today a spypoint d6 and a moultrie A5,not the best cameras,nor are they as good as the cameras gone but...I bought the moultrie to monitor my mineral sight and the blackflash to monitor my camera.Figured I'd climb a tree and put it in a secure location if they are of such but for sure didn't want it flashing so they could see it.If i had a dummy camera I'd use it for bait but I got the A5 on sale at Dunham"s for 49,might not even put batteries in it but then again I kind of want them to see the flash and think they have scored again,only to be caught on the blackflash,Then at least the playing field will even up some :stir: :stir: :rotf: Watch them get them both :livid: My wife would not want to be in the same house as me then :lol:

Get the Midget T from Cranford and put your cameras as high on the tree as possible. Tree straps make cameras very visible. Make sure you use a black flash, too.

Why would coon hunters steal stands or cameras? They don't use either one. Dad lets coon hunters and rabbit hunters on his place year round and very seldom does anything go missing. The surrounding deer hunters thou will rob you blind! They steal stands, blinds, cameras and anything else they find usually within 100-200 hundred yards of the property lines. Deer hunters are by far the most jealous and selfish group over all. I have actually seen guys ready to fight over a deer someone killed legally because he had it on his camera a month before about a mile from where it was killed! Another group we have had problems with is ginseng poachers that tresspass and dig in the summer before season. They will steal ANYTHING since they already know their trespassing and digging out of season. They just see it as free money if they can carry it!

I hear ya! I've had 2 Summit Climbers stolen and a camera on my own land. Bad when you pay for land and always worry about putting stands and cameras out again. It's sad

Done,bought something very similar at Academy .It looked very good when we got it hung.Put it on a tree with alot of poison ivy,so far I'm not itching lol
