They are falling in Carroll County

Our white oak acorns are starting to fall at our farm in Carroll County. We have a lot of acorns but several of them are immature due to the late summer drought.

I haven't been in the woods yet and I wondered how the acorn crop would be after such a dry summer.

The white oaks are about all dropped here in Coffee. Reds are dropping though and deer are eating them even though there's still a few whites on the ground & dropping. Heck they're even eating willow oaks. I had a momma doe & button buck under me last night for about an hour gobbling up black oak acorns.

We got oaks of all kinds in south east dropping. Acorns everywhere.

White oaks dropping right now here in East Tn as well. Oddly enough I passed a 3.5 yr old 8 Sun afternoon that was randomly picking up the big Chestnut oak acorns. I have killed many deer over the years on these big acorns but its usually only before a better (more favorable) acorn starts falling, guess he just likes them!! lol

I'm seeing the same pattern of acorn drop that I saw in 2023, the last time we had a big acorn crop but also a late summer drought. Both in 2023 and this year, the White Oaks dropped underdeveloped acorns - those they couldn't carry/mature through the drought - in late September. In fact, those underdeveloped acorns just poured out of the trees for a week or so. But then the acorn drop stopped, even though there are plenty of full-sized acorns in the trees. If this year follows the same pattern as 2023, there will be a lull in White oak drop until late October, when the full-sized ones start pouring out of the trees.

where I hunt (Rutherford), the reds are either loaded or bare. The whites are spotty. The whites are dropping, and the reds are not.. yet.

The issue I have is i hunt a lot of public during bow and squirrel hunters like to walk all over the place shooting .22 bullets up into the trees in close proximity to where I am sitting up in the trees. I just yell and let them know I am there, but that usually happens after they have run all the deer past me and out of the area

It was encouraging to hear and see acorns dropping and deer from the stand though. in the spots I hunt that are primarily reds, they haven't started dropping and the spots are dead, but the acorns are on the tree, so only a matter of time.

The one white oak over my carport side of my house sounds like people walking on top of my house and falling at times . The metal roof really makes it sound like tocks hitting my roof . Every once in a while a tree rat will really get he acorns falling .

In 2023, I was really worried because undersized, underdeveloped White oak acorns poured out of the trees at the end of September and then stopped. I was thinking, "Is that it? If so, we're doomed." But opening of MZ, full-sized White Oak acorns were beaning us in the head constantly as we sat on stand.
