I used one yesterday for the first time. I had a doe freak out down wind of me didn't blow just turned on a dime and bailed out crashing hardcore . Generally when they wind danger like human scent they'll blow or get a good distance and blow. I didn't expect the thermacell to produce smoke either and just can't help but wonder if it would freak a deer out cause there has to be some kind of odor and if it's not something they're use to generally their going to spook? So what have your experiences been? Any problems? DO you use it often?
 
Do you have the fresh earth refills? i was using the regular ones and was having deer freak out about it. They would come and bail without any warning. however after i got the fresh earth i have not had the problem. i actually was sitting on the ground thursday evening and had a doe come in at 20 yards and never pay a bit of attention to it.
 
I love my thermacell. My cartridge ran out about 30 minutes before I got out of there and the mosquitoes feasted on me. However haven't had a problem with it spooking deer.
 
I wouldnt bow hunt without it. I want to go this afternoon but my last cartridge ran out last night and walmart was sold out. Come to think of it I dont think I had any trouble with the regular pads and I havent with the fresh earth either. Dont care if I did. Heck with going in there gettin eat up by mosq or those annoying black gnats. Those OFF version of them sounds like a generator running.

Go on youtube and look up thermacell hack.

I took a valve out of a cheap lighter and epoxied it into the end of a thermacell gas cartridge. Now I just refill it with Zippo premimum butane fuel. A canister costs about $6 and will refill a thermacell cartridge about 10x.

I'm not sure.

I've killed deer with the Thermacell going, but I wonder how many hunts I didn't see deer was due to the Thermacell.

I only use mine if the mosquitos are real bad this year. Ive hunted a few times already this year without it and only got bit a few times.
