I strap mine to the tree about shoulder height, if its windy you usually don't have an issue with the mosquitos.
 
I strap it to the foot rest out of the way
I figure heat rises making it come up towards me.

I strap mine to my pack so I know where it is all season. I take it off when the weather gets cooler. I hold mine on with cable ties so It does not come off .
 
I strap it to my rail on my Summit Viper but I might try Savage Knight's tip hooking it to the tree strap. Good idea.
 
I hook mine to the top piece of my climber on the rail. Generally it is blowing across me, but it seems to work regardless.

I will say this. Yesterday, I turned mine on and it had a pad (looked new) from last year. It was putting the smoke out, but the skeeters weren't responding. I changed pads, and like magic no skeeters.
