The Walleye

Well itw getting that time of year when the walleye should start up again. Just wanted to see if anyone had had any luck yet. Its juvenile weekend for deer hunting so I am thinking about getting out on the lake. I have only had a little experience with the buggers and usually only catch 2 or 3 but if anyone wants to get out send me a pm.I'm pretty free on where I go and fish also.

New to the walleye thing. I had heard about walleye in Normandy. Are they in Tims also?

this is true, it was a real nice fish. but that same day I didn't catch a darn thing. I too am not very experienced with walleye. Usually troll a shad rap of some type.

Hunting season is here, but hit me up in april and i can put yall on some fish ! I troll the river and april/may can have some limit days of sauger and walleye. Now if i could just get someone to show me how/where to catch them on old hickory lake !

I would love to go fishing for some that is the only fish I am use to fishing. We use to fish the Missouri up north a lot. We use bottom bouncers with a walleye rig "fancy name for a spinner" with minnows or worms. I miss trolling for them. I have caught a few at Normandy fishing for crappie with just minnows.

They are the best eating freshwater fish though not the best fighters.

Has anyone ever fished for them below Center Hill Dam? I know they're there because I saw a guy catch one about a year ago in late spring during no generation. Is this a once in a while thing or is it worth it this time of year to specifically target them? I've never caught a Walleye but I'd love to learn how since I hear how good they taste.

Can anyone give me some advice for lures, technique, location? I don't have a boat for now so I'm stuck with bank fishing. If they're plentiful in the Caney, I have no problem wading and bank fishing the deeper parts and I won't ask for GPS coordinates of your hotspots. Just tactics, productive lures, and the body of water. I'll find them from there. Thanks!

The best lure i have ever seen is a simple walleye rig which is a simple spinner rig I have hundreds of them and bottom bouncers. Use that with minnows or worms and just cast out and real in.

Yeah. I can tell you how to catch them on the caney...PM me and i will let you know some great times/techniques to go after them. Harnesses dont work well for them here in mid tn because of all of the bream, cats, drum etc cleaning you out in short order. Anyone wanting to get on some fish hit me up in the spring and i can show you how to get on them anywhere on the Cumberland. FH....you should see the monsters we catch on Dale.......better yet, you should see the smallies that we catch on accident while chasing the eyes on Dale ! No exaggeration....have had 4 fish over 6# in a day......and a big muskie to boot.

except for the one time I came out there for a week! looking forward to next year, hope it doesn't warm up so early in the spring.

I ain't competing in no tournament unless I am with eyeseeker in his boat. Last time out I didn't catch a single darn fish, and trolling tests my patience. I'd love to get into some more walleye in this cooler water though.

Catman, you must catch lots of walleye, as much as you fish below Old Hickory Dam. I caught this one a few years ago on January 6; right after deer season.

#13 silver and black Rapala reeled SLOWLY along the riprap after dark. Turn the reel handle one revolution, count to ten, and reel one more time. Repeat until fish grabs the lure and hang on!

BTW, she went back in the water shortly after this pic to lay all those eggs. I ate her younger siblings later in the week.
