Went out to the river again today and braved the cold and wind and caught a couple. It was very tough fishing today. We didn't catch anything for a mile or two. I switched back to my old faithful and then hooked into a MONSTER on a little 5'4" All Star. It wouldn't fit into the net. Then Kimberman hooked into a HUGE trout. It spent most of the time out of the water then in. When he got it to the boat I tried to net it and it wouldn't fit and then came off. He caught another that wouldn't fit in the net, but thankfully we got it in for a pic. I need to get a bigger net. Here are some pics of the fish. All of them were released unharmed. Thank goodness we have a slot limit.

I'm sure we have had pleasant conversations. Was your buddy on the river or on the bank? I think we were the only people on the river from 5 PM to 7:30 PM. I didn't see any other boats.

I've fished the river 3 times so far and have fished 2 of my favorite spots. Maybe tomorrow if it's not raining I will hit another part of the river and see what happens.

But without the slot, all of those fish could have been killed yesterday. With it, one would have survived, but because of the sportsmanship of Kimberman and Model70 all survived for you and me to try and catch them ourselves.

i was wondering what kind of growth rate was on the clinch,i know they put em back,i more than likely would have too,for eating i prefer crappie ect ,trouts pretty far down the list on eating :) ,mike243

I haven't seen data for the Clinch, but the growth rate on the Caney is estimated at somewhere around 4 inches a year. The Clinch is a fairly similar tailwater, so I'm willing to bet the growth rate is about the same.

trout are #2 on my preferred fish for eating but those WERE NOT eating fish! it's the 10-12 inch rainbows that we eat.

About 6-10 years ago the growth rate on the Clinch was estimated at 1-2 inches per month. There were some REALLY big fish populations then. Reason for TWRA (with studies supported by TN Tech)at that time to fore go stocking an 8-10" fish for a 4" fingerling. That was when the river was FULL of scuds and sowbugs, but that has decrease dramatically over the past 4-5 years IMO, either from pollutants from Norris or Didymo.

Scuds by the way are fresh water shrimp for those of you macroinvertably challenged. Sowbugs look like the "rolly-polly" or pillbugs that are on land.

In my opinion, slot limits are only effective if enforced. Have you seen TWRA there this year? I have fished there for at least 15 years and I have only had my license checked once. From the looks of those pics I need to get out there soon!

Mod 70 & the rest of you... I can't believe all of you get on here & lie to everyone reading. Obviously, those fish or no other trout over 10" has ever been caught on the clinch. Keep on telling your stories & the clinch will be full of boats looking for large trout that will never live in the clinch..

No need for others to waste their time & money coming to the clinch. I'd rather fish a mud puddle than the clinch. :grin:

Bah! The Clinch is the best trophy trout water in Tennessee, especially for people fishing out of boats. The Caney is done. All the people fishing the Caney right now need to pack up and head over there.

Now those are some browns! Great job guys! That Clinch must be dynamite. Like I said....harvest isn't evil, and it's not "unsportsmanlike" to take a fish on occasion, but I think the Caney needs a slot too.
