Anyone know when the rut kicks in high gear in the Hamilton county area I know a lot of good bucks are being taken sometimes I see does in my yard but no bucks harnessing them yet any answers on this?

Where I hunt in S. Lincoln- its usually T-giving week (+/- a week) (last 6 years at least). This year no different. Seen 4.5 yr old chasing doe (Monday night after dark), 3.5 yr old pinned one down Saturday night (didn't care about the truck watching him from 25 yrds) and doe's are running young ones off. Best I can tell- this weekend will really kick into gear. Our Bunker hill farm (Giles) runs almost the same. Sometimes the 2nd rut around Christmas is even more pronounced. The large fields below us are showing signs of bucks pushing does- and going from group to group...
With the diminishing moonlight coming- I look for Sunday 20th to the 28th to be our best action. Add in the cold snap... and...

My son killed a 2.5 8 pointer opening weekend of muzzle half heartedly chasing a doe. I shot a pretty good 3.5 year old 8 checking a scrape on Monday. Last year I saw two chases the week of thanksgiving. Buddy's who hunt Hamilton are seeing bucks on there feet as well. This weekend with the weather drop should be productive.

Saw 3 does and a spike Saturday evening and none appeared to be fired up.

Not seen much lately and neither has many of the guys who hunt hamilton. Most of us saw the most action during muzzle loader. Its been dead the last week and the does I have seen have been grouped back up with no bucks around. Four of us killed our bucks during the 10th-18th and most of those were 3.5-4.5 year old bucks (one 2.5 year old on the 6th). I honestly think it hit early this year, but who knows.

Just a little tidbit about the rut. I don't get involved in these conversations too much, because the subject is so hard to quantify.

If you have trail cams, and see fawns walking around, count back 200-205 days and you will know when breeding happened.

On my farm, fawns born first part of June, which equals first of November for peak breeding. Give or take a week.

Your 100% correct . Riddle me this we saw a fawn midd Otober still with spots and no more than 30 to 35 pounds if that my guess would be it was not more than 6 to 10 weeks old at the most

They weigh 4-8lbs at birth and keep their spots for 3-4 months. If you see them feeding, they are likely at least 2-4 weeks old.

Action started at my place the Friday before muzzy. It got real good the next weekend. Does were grouped back up by the next weekend. Nothing at all going on Thanksgiving weekend. Wilson Co.
