Its happened Again!! Each year I find myself in the stand and for the last 4 or 5 years Prayer has been the best deer lure, hunting tool on the Market!! and its Free.
I always ask God to send me a shooter buck. Exact Request differ but usually its "Lord please send me a big 8 point or better, let my aim be true and let him die quickly and let me find him" He has answered that prayer at least once a year for as many years as I have asked. He even keeps up with my idea of a shooter as it changes.
Do to a busier than normal home life, Rocky mountain spotted fever and bronchitis I only spent 1 full day in the woods for all of Bow season.
Yesterday after climbing in the stand I made my Request I prayed Lord send me a big buck at least as big as my others and lord extra points or character would be nice. This was at 2:40 and for the next 1hr and 50 minutes I never seen as much as a squirrel and the wind blew from every direction. About 4:30 I stood and stretched and saw a Squirrel and thought maybe the deer will start to move too and sat back down.
A few minutes passed and a doe appeared to my left with the wind blowing from her to me. My adrenalin surged a bit as my pulse raised a bit. Within seconds I hear a deer to my right which is not good because its downwind. I turn my head to see a spike 20 yds and closing. Now I am afraid to turn my head back to look at the doe as the spike might see me he is now 10 yds away and the doe might be looking at me for all I know. I expected it all to fall to pieces, after all the spike is still downwind. He is stopped looking towards the doe and every chance he gives me I move my head back to the left a little.
He passes in front of me only 5yds away, his head goes behind a small beach and I finish turning my head. The doe is 35yds away and there is another deer behind her and I thought saw horn. Another step and I can tell its a shooter and with his next step he is under a canopy of small trees. The doe is now between the spike and the shooter and my heart beating at triple speed because the way I see it an explosion is about to happen because of the unwise spike. Knowing if this happens I may not get a shot my blood pressure spikes to almost panic.
The shooter steps into the clear but is now facing me at 15 yds and to make it even more difficult I have a 1" branch in the way for a shot this close. I used my barrel to push the branch down and quickly find his chest in my crosshairs and squeezed the trigger. He humped up and went to my left. 50 yards out he turns a circle and then makes a right and heads back north and away from me. I lost sight of him and the other deer. I can hear running its the spike pushing 2 does back past me. Only then do I notice what appears to be the body of a deer about 120 yards out. Its down but I can not see enough to know if its dead or alive.
I would have no shot from here and to get down out of my stand right now might make things worse. Maybe I get to finish him off or maybe I scare him off or one of the other deer spots me and sounds the alarm taking him with them. Adrenalin is oozing out of my pours as I try to swan my barrel and reload. 30 minutes later I went to him slowly and find him dead. My dad said the shot went off at 4:46
I looked at him and found Exactly what I requested in Prayer. He is a 20" wide 8pt with 9th point growing from inside the right beam in a way that gives him that asked for character. The right g2 makes a slight split. Very large body and I am guessing 4 1/2 years old
I sat admiring him and Thanking God and singing Amazing Grace.
I hope you enjoyed my hunt and and the photos. This post might make me sound like a better Christian or man than I am because in reality I fall short of the mark daily. God is good
I hope at least one person reading this will add prayer to their hunt.
