Love it or hate it, we are stuck with the new anterless deer regulation for at least next season. If a hunter has killed two bucks and mistakes a deer with "broken skin" nubs for a doe and shoots it, what should the hunter do to not get into trouble?

I am no longer there, and don't know how it will be enforced. Technically, if there is antler above the hairline, the hunter has exceeded his buck bag limit, just like he would have if it had been a racked buck. It will be a violation. The ethical thing will be to report it to the local officer and receive a citation for the offense.

Hunters are going to have to guard against making that mistake. I was not in agreement with the change for a variety of reasons, with the scenario you mentioned being one of them.
