The Early Worm Gets the Catfish

I started chasing old whiskers earlier than normal this year. I usually fish for white bass this time of the year, but I can't justify fishing for something that tastes like cat food when I can catch my personal favorite.
Since I've never fished for them much in February, I didn't know where to start. Last Saturday evening, I only caught 2 that went 15lbs. Sunday evening right before dark, I caught 4 that went for 22lbs. I felt like I knew where to start Monday morning. Monday, between 7:30am and 9:45am, I caught 8 that went 54lbs. This Saturday morning between 7:00am and 10:15am, I caught 20, but my size average dropped and they only totaled 65lbs. Yesterday morning from 7:00-10:00, I only caught five, but they went for 41lbs. I've yet to get on the big boys, but at least I'm catching solid fish.

5 day total- 39 fish/ 197lbs

Good deal, sounds like the fishin is good. catfish have been on my mind lately too, except I actually have yet to catch one this year.

cool, sounds like your not cooking those whitebass right though, I can't tell them from the others when I cook fish

We usually eat 20 gallons or so of fillets every year. I used to not notice as much of a difference when I didn't eat as many, but I do now. You know you're eating too much fish when you can tell the species or subspecies by the taste and texture of the meat.

I can definitely tell the type of fish by taste and texture.

I like white bass better than catfish though. Of course I usually catch channel cats when I go lookin for catfish - the blues are better eating but I rarely catch them in any numbers.

I probably only had 4 or 5 channels. The rest were blues.
