We have a doe on our property that will blow non stop. We have yet to hunt the front section of the property that we haven't heard her both up wind and down wind. I just watched her 50 yards away blowing like crazy looking away from me then crossed in front of me, blew some more then walked under me. I almost shot her so wed never have to listen to her again. The other deer don't seem to be phased by her at all. What would cause one to act like this?
 
Sometimes upwind isn't upwind. For instance the ridge across from you downwind may be curving that wind up and back the same direction it came from over your head and dropping your scent right on top of an upwind deer. Otherwise, you just have an antsy, loud mouthed doe. Nothing a 130 grain bullet couldn't cure.
 
Michael Waddell harpooned a loud mouth doe like that several years ago on his show, she was blowing and stomping, just shook his head and sadly said, "it cost her her life"....

Funniest thing I ever saw on a hunting show :D

If I'm in need of a doe on days like that they usually follow me out of the woods.
 
I can't stand those does!!! I have a limit on how much of that noise I will take before I take that noise out during a hunt.
 
I would venture to guess that 98% of deer hunters have no idea what that blow means or that there are two kinds of blows that mean different things. When you hear a doe blow twice, about two seconds apart,if you will blow back-twice, about two seconds apart, if yuo want to, you can probably kill her.

AND AT NO TIME, DOES A DOE BLOWING AT YOU MEAN YOUR HUNT IS RUINED. That is a major fallacy. I love them blowing at me when I am walking in. Most times, it means I am going to have a great hunt.............if I DO THE RIGHT THING.

Think abut it. What does a doe blowing mean?

What does it mean? Trying to scare something into moving? A signal to let others know there is something not rite? What I thought anyways.
 
Last time I got blowed at it totally ruined my hunt. I had just gotten settled into my stand on the edge of a food plot and went to pull my bow up. Unbeknownst to me, a doe group had come up behind me. I couldn't see or hear them through the trees behind me. They never saw or smelled me, but they could see the ground under my tree and when my bow started coming up they FREAKED! They took off and blew all the way to the next county. Hunt was ruined.

So you are saying that one group of does scraed every deer in the area away fromt hat food plot? Just because you didn't see any more deer, you are convinced it was because those does ran them off. How about the deer that didn't hear them? No, they did not ruin your hunt. You just thought they did.
 
The doe that blows continually is usally a bit of a paranoiac. After a short while, the other deer ignore her. If you willexactly mimic her blowing, most of the time she come close enough to shoot.

The deer that blws and runs off is the one that is truly spooked. She saw, smelled or heard something she didn't like and is getting out of dodge. While she may spook the deer nearher, she does little to affect other deer.

The fact is a doe or does blowing does not mean they are warning other deer. It does little to spook deer that can't see her. In most cases, it only spooks the deer she is with. I have had does blow at me enough to learn to just ignore it or at times, even play with them. Learning to correctly blow back at them is a tremendous tool.

Hunters give far too much credit to all the various deer natural habits and the sounds they make every day. If a doe blows at a coyote, does that ruin your hunt?

Yes. This is East TN. All 6 of my deer ran off. Hunt was ruined!
 
She may have a heavy case of nasal bots as well. How would you scratch the itch caused by maggots crawling around in your nasal cavity?
 
I really think that half the time a doe blows she really doesn't know what she's blowing at. She thinks she heard, smelled, or saw something. Many times I just blow back at them and they quit and move on. I don't doubt that it alerts deer in the immediate area to be on the lookout but I don't think it ruins a hunt. The only way that could happen would be if the only deer in the country were there when it happened and nothing else was capable of moving through your area.
 
Had a doe last year that blowed at something from a particular stand. Didn't matter the wind direction....she would blow. It never kept me from seeing deer and even killing a nice buck.
 
The blowing is aggravating, but I hate it when I walk up on one accidentally and they run off screaming like a banshee...

:D Ain't that the truth! I must have been watching the same six this year too! They must blow and leave me and head over to you, then come back again in the same manner! :D
 
diehard I never thought of that,had a deer in Cumberland county that I never laid eyes on but heard it coming and going 3-4 times at over 100y blowing,wind was never blowing towards him/her .
