What is a .257 comparable to?
 
.257 weatherby is pretty much a .25-06 on every steroid thats ever been taken :grin:

You are lookin at 100-120gr bullets leaving the muzzle at speeds between 3250 and 3350fps and still doin roughly 2700 to 2800 at 300yd.

No Way!!! How hard is it to find ammo? Will that super high velocity be good at close shots?
 
Never personally used a .257 weatherby but its one of the fastest smaller caliber big game guns around. Finding ammo may be a bit of a challenge unless you handload.
 
Roy Weatherbys favorite caliber was his .257,he took it on elk hunts and swore by the speed being what did the killing. I've also read where he and his son Ed went to Africa with two rifles one in ,270Wby Mag and the .257Wby Mag. Just the brass,it's so dang expensive.

Can't disagree with the ballistic capabilities of the weapon, but it has it's place uses like everything else.

Sounds like a great bean field gun.

I'm getting 3445 with the 25-06 and 100 grain bullets now. The Weatherby 257 has even more powder capacity but you'll need a long barrel to take advantage of it. My Ruger has a 26 inch barrel like the Remington CDL and needs every bit of it. I would like to see that one with at least a 28 inch barrel but Remington's not going to do it.
 
Do it..........we have an SPS Stainless still in the store, and if it wasn`t for the jacked up finish, it would be at my house. The CDL has the silky smooth finish.

I`ve got an itch for a .243, and may get an SPS in that caliber, just gotta hankerin to try some new bullets.
 
The .257 Roy is one awesome round. I have the .257 Roy in a Vanguard Sub MOA SS. I am shooting 100gr TSX. I did replace the trigger with a Timney set at 1.5#. My nephew killed two does with it on juvenile weekend. 1st was about 25yds, 2nd was about 80yds both complete pass throughs, I was hoping to see what it could do further out but oh well. As for speed my 24" bbl might be 60fps slower than the 26". I would say I am close to 3,600fps not chronographed the load yet, I have talked with others on another forum and they are getting nearly the same in the 24" as the 26". I have a buddy with the same gun and he is shooting the 110gr Accubonds @ 3,500fps. This is my last three shot group .320" using RL22 and the 100gr TSX. BTW Barnes has a new 80gr TTSX and a 100gr TTSX for the .257. I have some 100gr TTSX on order as we speak. The 80gr TTSX out of the Roy should be over 4,000fps! :grin:

This is a 8pt I shot last year @ 250yds holding dead on using 110gr Accubonds @ 3,500fps out of my buddy's Vanguard. :grin: After this I bought one except mine is the Sub MOA with a B&C pillar bedded stock.

Brass can be made from 7mm Remington Mag. brass.

Ammo isn't hard to find. At least not in Chattanooga. SW has factory ammo and carries brass. I now handload for my 257. I will tell you that it is hard to beat the Weatherby factory ammo. They use Norma brass and some powder mixture that is way fast!

I love the look of that remy. Curious as to what the final price will be otd.
 
Why God Why? I am going to go broke on this forum. I want one. I also want a 7mm08, a Marlin 308, a Marlin 45/70, etc.
