JW shot a nice little 7 pointer with the 65 Sierra Game King with muzzle velocity right over 3100 fps,,deer was 110 yards broadside and was a high shoulder shot that exited through the offside shoulder,

may have been a fluke but I dont see how there was any improvement left to be made on how the bullet performed..
 
from what I saw yesterday I may have to buy a sporter weight 223 and a 2.5-8 Leupold scope,,

I kinda would like my CZ back,,but I dont think JW is gonna give it up easily..

I think the Carbine has a 12 twist,,I have been looking hard at it in the 7.62x39

loaded with the .311 Sierra or Hornady bullets I think it would be the ideal woods hunting rig,,with maybe one of the new Leupold straight 3 power scopes,,
 
Yeah the carbine in .223 has a 12" twist. I figure that will stabilize the 64g power points which is what I use for deer. It is only 37" oal so it would be real handy and a good predator/deer rifle in a well made rifle. PH

How much damage does the 64 gr.do, does it leave a good blood trail.??
 
Well it punches a small hole in and slightly bigger out. It does enough damage to kill them quickly. Lack of a good blood trail could be an issue as with any small caliber. I have never had one run out of sight after being hit through the chest-take that back, one that my son killed last year on the juvy hunt ran out of sight up a steep hill, in about 3 minutes it came crashing back down the hill and fell dead into the creek. All the bullets have exited-range has varied from 20 yards to 100 yards. I have seen a lot of deer hit with regular 'bigger' cartridges with complete penetration that don't leave much of a blood trail for the first 30 or more yards. Don't know if the .223 shot deer would eventually leave a better trail or not. Anyway the .223 will kill deer readily if they are hit properly especially if you use a tougher bullet. And the price is right on the 64g PPs. PH
