We got into camp yesterday morning at fly down time and got to watch 100+ birds come off the roost at one place. We got settled into our rooms and did some scouting yesterday during the day. We all split up on different farms this morning and ended up with 4 birds down the first morning. I was able to get some birds pretty quick off the roost coming in and lined 2 up and let the TSS do the rest. I tried until 10 to get on some more birds and finally found a gobbler out in some crp with about 14-16 hens. I called to him once and watched him gobble through the binocs, but he was close to a half mile away and couldn't hear him. I gave him a few minutes and he was feeding along with his hens. I called again and the suicide bird turned and started running straight to me. I scrambled and got set down and gun up. He ran all the way in and I stopped him in the road. I've never shot one that far before, but he was a long poke. I don't remember exactly what I said to him, but it must have been some XXX stuff. I know that carrying 3 birds out is no easy task either.

Well I had another great hunt saturday afternoon to finish out my Texas season. I had My buddies drop me off about 3 and was going to sit in a good area where our contact out there found some this morning in a field. There were birds already out there when we pulled up so we waited until they eased off and had them drive me to the spot I wanted to hunt so as to not spook the birds as bad if they saw us. I hid behind the truck and set my decoy up and then hit the bushes using the truck as cover. They left and I gave it about 15 minutes and hit them with a Yelp and they responded so I knew I hadn't messed it up. There are a ton of jakes this year out there and they are very aggressive and kept running the gobblers away from the hens. Finally after having the hens and jakes all work by me for the second time they got within range so I could fill my last tag in Texas. It was a very exciting hunt to say the least and I had hens and jakes within 5 yards several times. Tumble weeds make a great blind by the way ;)

 
We filled all 12 of our tags in 2.5 days, it was a great time and we are already excited about next years trip.
 
Wow, way to stack them.

Should have had someone take your pic after the walk out with three birds over your shoulders :D !

I text the land owner and told him I was walking out and to meet me at the gate before I picked the birds up. He text me back at some point and asked if he needed to drive to where I was at? I got it after I got to the gate with them. :) I had a turkey tote shoulder strap with one on each end and one across my shoulder. Plus a gun and a gobbler lounger, I'd do it again. :)
 
Man I get so jealous of your posts. That how I want to do it one day. Just need the money and time and I'll be set lol

sounds like a wonderful trip with lifelong memories! One day I'll have to do that (after I retire... just don't have the time to vacation during April except to my home farm)

Counting a few I had left over from last year, pretty dang full. My neighbor walked over today as me and the boy were cleaning the bird and brought 2 gallons or so of peanut oil. I gave him the cleaned bird and told him to call me when he cooked it. He was tickled to have it and I'll be tickled to go eat it. :)
