Anyone ever been on a texas hog hunt? My best friend is 3 weeks away from being back from his 10 month tour of duty in Afgan, and he is wanting to go on a hog hunt in Texas.
Anyone ever been or have any suggestions on a good place to go down there?
 
Never been, but I would look into Javalinas instead of hogs...at least that is what I want to do in TX.
 
I guess i'll discuss things more with him when he gets in or I get a chance to talk to him again. He just told me he wanted to go down there to hog hunt.

I've been to Texas several times hog hunting, can't suggest a place since we hunted private ranches but I can bout guarantee you won't have a problem killing hogs. I took my dogs and hunted at night and we caught one after another. It normally took 10 to 20 minutes to find a track and they never ran very far. This was in the "hill country" part of Texas, a couple hours south of SanAntonio.
 
I found one place that is 699 a hunter. Discounts for 3 or more people in a group. Two hogs any size. Unlimited hogs 50 pound or smaller. And two predators every day. Including bobcat coons cougar. Basically anything. Meals included as well. For a 3 day hunt. Seems like a decent deal to me. Time to get the 30-06 on mark and the bow strings waxed up. Be good practice before archery opener

I have hunted their many times. Mainly south of Corpus and to the border. Lots of hogs! We always hunted at night with dogs and knives. We killed lots of hogs and javelinas on the King Ranch. We mainly just stalked the javelinas and shot them with bows or pistol. They are easy to stalk. I recommend chaps and snake boots.... plenty of big Rattlers in the areas we hunted and everything you touched would poke you. Sorry but I have no info on an outfitter, I always just stayed with a friend.

I hated the javelinas, they stay in a pack and cutters are straight and short! They'll cut your dogs to pieces in no time!!!

Yep. I hated them too. They will wreck a dog.
