I am from Ohio and me and a couple buddies have heard great things about wild hog hunting in Tenessee. We are trying to put together a hunt for next spring/summer. Any suggestions on good outfitters or guides. We would like to stay away from high fences too.

I live in East TN where the majority of the hogs are located and I know of 3 or 4 different outfitters,but they are all high fence.Somebody on here may know of someone though.

Thanks. What I have found is that most of the outfits are high fence, but alot of them are very big high fence areas. Not like to the five-acre exotic shooting pens. I'll keep lookin.
 
I live like 30 mins from one of the places and it is 1200 acres.You may want to consider a public land hunt in the fall.I hear that Cherokee natl forest is loaded with hogs.
 
Most of the high fenced operations are far from "canned" hunts. You still have to be in good shape to chase the dogs up and down the mountains. Cherokee NF has hogs, Catoosa usually has a non-quota hunt in December and they have hogs, and Big South Fork has a hog hunt that usually runs from the end of Jan-Feb. I'm definately not an expert on hog hunting (never killed one). But, these are some options if you don't want to do the outfitter. Where in Central OH are you from? I was born in Lancaster.

I just re-read your post and saw the spring/summer deal. If you plan to hunt them in spring/summer, you'll have to go through an outfitter, or find someone that has them on private property.

Thanks for the info. I live near New Albany, northeast side of Columbus. Big deer around here, just not alot of places to hunt any more. My best friends wife grew up in Lancaster.
 
CNF has a very healthy population of hogs as well as the park. If the forest service and game commision had any sense, they would offer more huntin oppurtunities during spring and summer months. Year around huntin is a proven method to help control there numbers and offers hunters, both resident and non, an off season huntin experience.
 
Thanks to everyone who has replied to my post! What I have learned...I think...is that if I want to do a spring/summer hog hunt in TN, I am going to have to go to a private outfitter because this is not the open season time. It sounds like even though the private places are high fence, it is still pretty real hunting and not like shooting fish in a barrell.

Cherokee National Forrest is 58,000 (the TN part..The entire National forrest is 658,000 over several states) acres of free ranging pork monsters....trust me on that. I hunt it every fall because its not 30 minutes from here and we have seen literally TONS of hogs in the last few years up there.
 
The bad thing about spring and summer is that the hogs shed and a summertime hog looks bad for a mount, but sure does taste good on the smoker and

You could always try and find a land owner who has hog problems.
you can hunt all year round on private property, but no dogs are allowed.
 
We hunted at Spartan Preserve in Granbview Tennessee and had a blast.HUGE hogs, Beautiful country and had a great guide. I think his website is boarhuntingtn.com or you can just google Spartan Preserve and find it.
 
Dog hunt is fixin to start monday in the CNF. Plenty of oppurtunity for those willing, to enjoy a good hog or bear race.

there are 625,000 acres of CNF in tennessee. it becomes nantahala nat'l forest at the NC state line.
 
That was probably "Fred", the pet hog that the outfitter bought and turned loose. I couldn't open the link but if it was the 1000+lb hog shot by the young 10 or 11 year old boy.........they whole dang group ought to be ashamed.

Didn't sway my opinion one bit. If they didn't know then fine.

Either way, the hog was a pet. He was raised in hog pen and hand fed. He was aggresive sure, but heck, even small tame hogs can be. His size was the X factor in that.

He was raised by hand, lived with people and then turned loose and shot I don't know how many times with a S&W 500. The boy needs to learn to shoot and that is the only knock on him.

They sell allot of hunts on ebay. I went turkey hunting up there with them last spring. I saw allot of turkey but did not get a shot. I had several hens within 10 feet of me. Unfortunately, nothing started gobbling until the morning I left. They have some pretty good deals on turkey and deer. They just put up a high fence where they are keeping their exotics as well as their wild boar for hunting.

Hunting on a preserve for hog in TN is expensive. If you are willing to spend that much money, you should look into hunting hogs in Texas. You will probably save yourself some money in the long run. I went down about 5 years ago and hunted for 3 days with lodging and meals and I killed a 225lb hog for about $320.
