But Overall I agree. they've been playing great every other field they've played on this season too. They looked great in houston this weekend too!

Most everyone says that about their field and how easy it is to hit HRs. I agree the field is not as big as most parks. But my question is that IF it is so easy to hit that many HRs for them then how do their pitchers have such a good record of not giving up a similar amount HRs to their opponents? How come we hardly ever see the opponents blasting multiple HRs in the park.
Almost all the "experts" mention that is reason UT has so many but they virtually never mention about the other teams HR #s.

I was more impressed how y'all looked at Houston than hosting a batting practice against a smaller school. Whip an sec school 23-7 on the road and you will really turn some heads!

I just checked, you said 10 Homeruns over the weekend in houston. I saw 4 against OK state, 3 against rice and I presume 3 against AZ. That's a very solid weekend. Two of those teams were top tier teams.

I'm hoping my ball team can find a way to win close games. So far we've dropped 4 close ones that we couldn't find a way to win.

I must admit, maybe I'm salty about my team getting off to a bad start.

Cheers though, if we suck and get booted before omaha, I'm gonna cheer for the vols. I'm also glad y'all aren't on the schedule this year!

Power up and down line up and off the bench -- Major league ballpark and VOLS did just fine HR wise. What I really like is the patience's at the plate this year, so far, I hope it continues into the SEC play.

I'll chime in on this. It's been forever since I played baseball back in high school. There were a few teams we played that had noticeably shorter fences than we were used to and it was always a mind game. You go up to bat looking to hit one out instead of just making contact. It does mess with your head. I think that could be what's happening. Tennessee is used to it so they're able to take advantage of it while other teams aren't used to it and allow it to mess with their heads. Just my 2 cents.

That's an aspect worth considering for sure. Confidence is a big part of any game. When Mashing HRs Does 10-15ft really matter? I'd suspect probably not.

I've seen 5-6 hits that were hit well but caught at the warning track already this year. Im sure it really deflates hitters who thought they had it.

are these homers just -barely- clearing the fence, or going "above and beyond" ? if you are hitting them 30 or 40 feet past the fence, is the "short fence" what is causing it? be nice to see distance estimates of how far they are traveling...

Watched em hit 4 more tonight. Some of them with the wind blowing what looked like 20mph INTO the yard

May have missed one but last 3 games these were the distances: 367, 348, 367, 395, 355, 362, 365, 427, 357, 384, 402.
Looking at the HRs in the Houston MLB park, I think the shortest HR was 348. So based on the shortest one in that MLB park, all the ones in Knoxville the last 3 games were further except 1 which was same distance.
Think they are at 42 for the year. 7 grand slams thru 13 games. Yearly record is 14 in 2003. They have a great opportunity to better that.

BaseVols sweep for the weekend (series attendance over 17K). The game on Sunday was another run rule game. But highlight was for Stone Lawless:

"UT hit five more home runs on the day, including a pair from redshirt-freshman catcher Stone Lawless, who finished with a career-high four RBIs. Lawless' second long ball was a walk-off, two-run shot into the porches in the bottom of the seventh."

Vols set a new UT record for best start of the season at 16-0 they have 1 more non-conf game at 1630 on TUE. Then the gators visit Knoxville for a 3-game series opening SEC play for UT.

TN looks good. It can afford a few Ls, along the way. I think as long as TN keeps winning most of its mid weeks and goes 8/10 for series in the sec it will be fine.

I'm worried about my bulldogs. I expected them to be elite. They look very mediocre against any ranked competition :(
