What is the best way to go smokeless with the encore? I have a .50cal muzzleloader barrel can it be converted to use smokeless powder?

No. Buy a 45/70 barrel and send it to either SMI or slufoot on Doug's messageboard to put a breach plug in it.
Go on gunbroker & search encore 45-70 they often have blued & every once in a while SS. Then like above send to slufoot.
I am sure the regular ML barrel isn't designed for the pressures of the smokeless powder
That is why you have to go with a rifle barrel converted to a smokeless ML.

You can call bullberry barrels and order a 45 cal pac-nor barrel and they will put the lug on the barrel and the new forend so when you get it all you have to do is put your new savage breech plug in and you are ready to go. Mine has a 24 inch barrel that shoots lights out.
