i durn near froze this morning & was tying my pull cord onto my ML when i see a decent 5 pt. walking out of the thicket trail to me. he stops at 15 yds. i center his chest with xhair and pull trigger. he jumps twice and stops, he is looking all around. big hole in the ground but not in his chest. i reload as he walks and is eating honeysuckle leaves. he is abit over 20 yds i put scope xhair tight in on right front leg pull trigger and he jumps couple times and stops again. i saw leasves fly up on shot. no hole no blood no hit 2 shots less than 25 yds. he walks back into thicket. i come home pull scope and rings off ML, its warne quick release. put on my 243 and shoot a 3 shot group 1 hole at 10 yds. then at 50 tune it in 3/8ths inch real quick fast as i can shoot it. nothing wrong with scope or rings or mounts. this ML will never fire anther shot, scrap iron is what it is now. been waiting over a month for a shot to put another deer in the freezer, done venting

You said that you took the scope off and put it on your .243 right? Take a few shots w/the BD. A scope can get knocked off but still shoot good groups. Those BD are extremely accurate. One of only a few factory MLs that came w/floating barrels.

it was tack driver last year, but now its not. i put a Bushnell trophy on it with the warne rings off my grey Hawk. shot it 5 times with the same load and sabots i have used. they scattered over 18" at 25 yds. either its the sabots in this cold weather or the barrel. i cleaned it good and did the wet patch dry patch in between the shots

i don't think i will have to worry about it ever missing another deer. i got so mad i took my sledgehammer to it in the front yard on a RR tie.
my fault for buying an inline ML cause it would be easier to clean. thats over $300 gone to waste.

Sorry to hear that. I killed my first deer with the same gun A BDXR with the 29" barrel. It to is a tack driver. I wonder wth happened? Sorry again.

i don't know why it did that. i have shot the gn sabot with 240 speer JSP 70 grs 3f goex since i bought it in 2004. it was shooting great couple days before ML season opened when i sighted it in. was the SS XR model 50 cal. now its scrap and the last TC i ever buy

I was all Gung Ho about buying one, until my friend got one first........after seeing the poor performance and the trouble he had loading it all the time, I looked elsewhere.

I never believed the 100 shots before having to clean and dead on............dead on BS. He couldn't shot 3 shots without cleaning it and it was not all that accurate. My .54 cal Hawkens would out shoot it with peep sights at 100 yds.

i bought mine in 2005, mines the blue xpress model. its a shooter, but i only shoot 777 in it. have shot 6 deer with it this year, havent even used my centerfire.

sorry for your trouble, i will have to keep an eye on mine now.

i don't know why it did that! i don't look for a perfect setup as i will gladly accept a 3" group at 50 yds. i did notice that the gn. sabots were like 2 diff types by feeling them load. one was snug the other slid down easy. they came in the same sealed bag. plus i had goex 3f and used up the can i had sighting in, went and bought a can of same to hunt with. now the old can was from 1979 and the new can looks diff in size granules. i hunted for 2 hrs this morning but gave up feel i am now defeated. 38 cars/trucks have came by the road in front of my 5 3/4 acres by clover plot. i just gave up. i know i won't hunt anymore on the weekends. i just can't stand all that traffic now. have only seen about 7 deer so far this hunting season and they logged the place across the road during all of my archery and ML seasons. so the deer are not crossing like last year. are y'all tired of my venting. sorry it just is tuff on me.hard to cope with with it. saw 38 deer last year but only saw 2 after mid Dec.

Smoke,

You go right ahead and vent...........it will spare the wife. LOL

I understand the frustration, I have only seen two bucks all season here, one presented no shot......the other was standing in my driveway half way to the mailbox.

I did fill my ML tag early(opening day) with a nice doe, and had 4 DMP's for my area, filled all 4. Just no horns. Regular season closes tomorrow then 1 wk of late ML. I am done for the yr. due to an injury.

Good luck

yep i agree i believe you had powder problems, combined maybe with some ill fitting sabots. you said you sighted in with the last in a can of fff. then switched to a new can to hunt with. makes sense now.

the smaller grains will settle to the bottom of the can and seperate from the larger grains. if you were shooting measured charges, that would increase the velocity a whole bunch. then when you switched to a new can the velocity decreased, and affected poi. but that in itself wouldnt explain the shot spread you described, but the different fitting sabots would.

Drop in velocity will and can cause group spreading, just as well as an increase. Every gun has its sweet spot of powder charge and bullet. An increase or decrease in powder charge will effect the bullet performance greatly.

reckon it was some of both of that powder/sabot stuff. i have an older peep sighted New Englander i will load up Mon morning early with prb and 70 grs pyro p. thats what its been shooting good and hope i don't have another shoot and miss session

well i can't blame the TC. i did a measurement on the sabots and even tho they came in the same pack the petal thickness is diff. couple thousandths. thats why the good snug and loose fit. seems i loaded 2 loose fitting ones back to back on shots. the other 3 with their bullets are the right size. teaches make very costly lesson no more sabots in my ML's. sorry quality control issues i reckon
