I put the 4.5-14 LR M1 on my 25-06 with the Talley LW mounts,,when zeroed at 100 yards I only have 6 MOA up adjustment left in the scope,,
according to my charts that will get me to about 500 yards,,I need 26 MOA to get to 1000,,
I am lookin hard at the Nightforce tapered Pic Rail and get some 30 MM rings to mount as low as I can,,The LR scope has 30 mm tube but only 40mm lens,,
with a 20MOA taper I can get to 1000 but it would be right at the top which severly limits the windage adjustments,,
the 30 MOA taper would leave me 10 MOA from the top of adjustment and the scope would have a pretty good bit of windage and should be in the center of adjustment at 400-500 yards
the 40 MOA taper would have just about all its windage adjustments at 800-1000 yards but the scope would be cranked to about 15 MOA from the bottom of its adjustment at 100 yards.which I think would be ok as I dont need much windage inside 300 yards..
this is going to be my dedicated front porch rifle where I can have shots from 0 to almost 850 yards,,
I really think the 30 is what I need but I also think I might need the 40 to keep the elevation adjustment closer to the middle in the scope so I will have all my windage adjustments for the longer shots,,if they made a 35 would be perfect but they dont and this base costs 150 dollars without rings so I want to get the right one the first time..
is my figuring and mental concept on track or am I totaly screwed up..
