Anyone have any experience with hide tanneries? I would like to have a nice deer throw made this year if I get the chance.

Just know this: A tanned deer hide sheds like a dog in spring. Are you married? If so, better check with the wife. There is a reason they are called throws. That is what a wife does with them. They thrwo them out.

I haven't found anyone in middle TN/Northern AL, so did my own (mixed results).
My mule deer from last year was done out in UT. Came back incredible!! The leather side was like suede and the hair side looks and feels like chinchilla.
Even non-hunting types were impressed.

$80. He was doing a european mount for me also.
There is a guy in Hoover, AL (just south of Birmingham) that does hides. He wants them green and frozen. I still have a couple in the freezer, but they are salted and frozen. Wish he could take them. I want to gives deer hides as gifts to my big city nephews. Hoping to spark an interest in them someday.
