I have a t/c Encore that I bought brand new the first year they came out w/ them. Its been a very good muzzeloader, But I am having a problem w/ it now..

After you break it open, there is a split piece of metal that is supposed to drive the firing pin back into position while closing the breech.... its not. I'm not sure if its the firing pin that is sticking ( I can tap it into place w/ a hammer ), or if its that metal piece that is worn. You can watch that metal piece split in half right when it hits the firing pin, so it just rides thru it instead of getting knocked back into place.


Any suggestions?
 
Your trigger spring causes the firing pin to go back when you break open the action. You shouldn't be able to see the firing pin when the action is open. Try cocking it and releasing the hammer while holding it but let it come all the way down. Now release the trigger and it should reset the hammer. If it dont then you have a sear or spring problem. Do all of this UNLOADED of course! I believe the split piece of metal you are referring to is the locking lug for the barrel when you close the action.
 
Also if the firing pin is not resetting itself you should not put a live round in it. The firing pin is resting on the primer and a little bump to the hammer will cause it to fire.

Or dirty from the powder residue. Take an allen wrench and remove the "plug" that holds the firing pin and spring in the receiver(the allen screw is located under the hammer, where it falls on the firing pin). Clean these three pieces and reassemble. Problem will probably be solved. I've seen this problem before in Encore MZL rifles that have not been throughly cleaned. TRHC.
 
I talked to T/C cust. Service yesterday... They are sending me a new firing pin and spring. I'll be 1st to admit, I don't know a whole lot about the mechanics about guns.

Does anyone know what size that allenhead is?! I've tried metric and standard and can't find the right size

Thats what it was. Took it to my bros shop... finally found the right wrench (7/64), took it apart and cleaned the piss outta it. Working great now!

Thanks a ton guys!!

Now i'm just worried about how far off my scope is gonna be from beatin around on my gun...
