T/C Bone Collector or Triumph vs CVA Accura

I've decided to retire the Remingtom ML (too much of a pain to clean) and was trying to compare the T/C Bone Collector or Triumph to the CVA Accura V2. Pros & Cons (besides price)? Are the CVA Bergara barrels that good? I've a Leopold VX III 2.5X8 to mount so optics won't be an issue.
 
yeah the bergara is that good. The v2 Accura has an adjustable trigger.

My brother and his V2 @ 100 yards with 100gr Blackhorn209, 300gr powerbelt platinum and as you can see, factory open sights.

I have both. The t/c is a better muzzleloader. With that being said the CVA shoots just as accurate at a smaller price. The CVA has bad trigger and feels like carrying around a big stick. Other than that it is good.

You're talking about the CVA's of the old days. Todays 2009-2010 cva's have some of the best triggers ever put on a muzzleloader. They are either preset or user adjustable.

Do a search on yahoo and type in * How do i adjust TC Encore trigger?* You'll come up with a ton of forums and websites. When tc charges the price they do, why are they putting 4.5+ lb triggers on them?

The Bone Collector is just a glorified Triumph, My wife and I both shoot triumphs and we love them, They are a bit pricy but I honesly believe you get what you pay for and you know your getting the best with a TC.
 
I'd say either one will shoot good, so it comes down to price, what feels and looks good to you. I wouldn't trade my my Encore for 2 Accura's, but that's just me, don't like the feel of the Accura's. Friend has one and I shoot good with it, but has a differant feel to me when handleing it and breaking it open.

with t/c you are paying for the name. cva is every bit as good.
btw i shoot an old t/c thunderhawk made before they went outrageous on their prices. wife and son both shoot cva.
 
have two muzzeloaders t/c black dimond.just bought a cva apex
shooting 150 grain gran.triple777 and 250 gr.hydrocon bullet
 
I haven't shot an Accura, but I used an Optima for a couple years and now have a Triumph.

You mentioned cleaning; the Triumph is a lot easier to clean than the Optima. The Optima has a vent underneath the barrel and gets blow-back gasses and soot all over the ramrod and between the barrel and the forearm. Lots of tight spaces in there that are hard to clean. You should check to see if the Accura has the same design. The Triumph's speed breech is a joy! Not only does it remove in seconds with fingers, it also stops 90% of the blowback gasses.

Having said this, I have an oath to never buy ANYTHING that says "Bone Collector". That's the stupidest slogan I ever heard. (And I like Waddell and his shows.)
 
I bought an encore to replace my old Remington also. Buy the CVA. The Bergara barrels are better than the T/C. If you are buying the T/C thinking you might add some more barrels, it's a crap shoot. My encore ML shot pretty well but the trigger was just so-so. I bought a .35 Whelen barrel from T/C to use in the MS primitive weapons season and the trouble began. I could only get about a 3-4 in group at 100 yds. After consulting Mike Bellm at Bellm's T/C's, who makes a living making Thompsons shoot like they should. I did a trigger job, glass bedded the barrel, and put in an oversized hinge pin, the whelen finally groups around 1 in. at 100 yds. I used the oversized pin in the ML and the groups even tightened up for that barrel. I am not a fan of T/C. You will find about 50% of the people that own or owned T/C's encountered problems similar to mine. That is too much work to have to do on a rifle made by " America's Premiere Gunmaker" ( I think that's the right slogan)
 
Oh yean. Then there are the missfires with centerfire cartridges with the Encore. I called Remington thinking I had a bad batch of ammo for the Whelen. They told me it was the hammer spring on the Encore. Bellm Confirmed this. I changed it out, and no more problem. I was lucky. Bellm said most had to have adjustments made to correct headspace issues to eliminate missfires. Thompson knows the hammer spring is too weak, especially if you install a hammer spur, and they won't change.

My Triumph cam with a 2lb trigger.
 
Triumph and Bone Collectors do not have available centerfire barrels.

If I were considering a new ML with interchangeable barrels, I'd take a long look at the CVA Apex. It's a touch heavy compared to an Encore, but I like how it looks and handles.
 
I bought a cva accura from midway usa, they were out of the regular stock so I got a thumbhole ss black stock one for 249.00 plus shipping. Has a superb trigger! I like the way the gun handles, it shoulders naturally and feels good to carry. Just my opinion though!
 
on the trigger thing. i just picked up a cheap cva wolf an am impressed with the trigger.
Before you write me off on that i've played with a lot of target rifle triggers and have a few. after having a few higher dollar muzzleloaders and shooting a couple buddies wolfs i decided i wanted one this new one feels pretty darn good especially for $150

all that said, of the mentioned choices i like the triumph
 
i can't say anything about CVA because i have never used or owned one but i can tell you that my Triumph is great

it is real easy to clean and the accuracy i'm getting out of it is amazing
 
Save your money and buy a CVA. I bought a new Accura last year and love it. Out of the box with a bore sighted scope at 100 yrds cut 3 bullet holes in 3 shots. you could have put all 3 shots in your thumb nail. Trigger pull is sweet. I retired my MK85 for life.
 
trkyhntr, what kind of bullet/powder in your accura. I also have an accura and am interested in what everyone likes.
 
90-100gr blackhorn209 with a 250-300gr .500 thor conical and cci 209m primers. Powerbelts from 245+ with 90-100gr bh209 shoot awesome as well.
