Swiss K 31

I got out the Swiss K31 7.5x55 today and fired a couple of groups at my 25 yard range. The Swiss rifles are so well made they are like a piece of mechanical art. This particular one was made in 1954 and has a walnut stock which is a little unusual for one of that vintage. I was using the Swiss surplus GP11 ammo which is considered a match grade ammo but it is/was standard military issue. The K31 was the last and best of the Swiss line of straight pull bolt rifles. The bolt has a helix that locks and unlocks the lugs in the front as the bolt is cycled front and rear. The trigger is a two stage that is nice and crisp. The bore on this one is very good plus and all the serial numbers match, even the magazine. I have some boxer primed brass and it shoots the .308 diameter 150 Corelokts and 170g RN 30/30 style bullets just as good as the GP11. Anyway I thought some of you might be interested. I have had plans to pick one up but the ones at the gun shows have been beaters, you got nice one. I have always heard they were good shooters. I bet you will be the only one in deer camp with one of those, great conversation piece. I do have ammo for the one I plan to get in the ammo room.

They aren't valuable enough to cover the cost of a corvette motor--LOL. I have seen them sale from wholesalers from $90 to $250 or more depending on condition, type of stock, year of manufacture etc. They really are the best value in a surplus rifle to come down the pike in a long time. The K31s aren't as plentiful in the market place as they once were so for a average condition one I would guess from $200 to $275. I see Samco has them from $190 to $200 with the higher grades sold out. Just keep it-you won't find a better rifle for the money. Plateau Hunter
