So I haven't missed an opening weekend turkey hunting since I started back in the late 80's. But this year, I ended up in the hospital unexpectedly just before season. I ended up having to have surgery to remove part of my colon and spent 9 nights in the hospital. I was released last Thursday and was sure wanting to get after the turkeys Saturday morning but I new that I couldn't. I spent the weekend laying around the house and sitting in the yard in one of those zero gravity lounge chairs. There's a spot behind the house where gobblers seem to like to strut midday. It's a very easy ride to this spot on the golf cart and I figured that since I have to sit around all week, I might as well just sit back there. So, late yesterday afternoon, I had my daughter take my lounge chair to this spot and throw up a brush blind around it. I went in there mid morning today and settled in. After about 30 min I let out a couple of soft yelps and had a gobbler answer about 100 yards away. After about an hour and a half of soft conversation, he finally broke and slipped in. 25 yard shot with the Stevens 410 and TSS #9's. 1" spurs, 9 " beard.
I hope to recover and get after them like normal before season ends but if I don't, I've had one good hunt this year. Good luck to you all.

Glad you could hunt and even get a bird while severely limited physically. Hope you make a full recovery! And never go to the woods again without TP. Missing 9in of colon, when u gotta go, you gotta GO!

That surgery is in my future and I am NOT looking forward to it
