FWIW, my bow has string suppressors on it! :D I would live to have a suppressed hunting rifle (w the Federal License of course).

How do you get the license

Easy bass, it is just one (or 2 forms).
Form 1 is to make our own suppressor.
Form 4 is to purchase a suppressor. Either from a store or another individual in your state.
Both forms require the actual form, fingerprints and photos, plus Chief Law Enforcement Officer signature. And a really stupid citizenship delcaration. (Or, go the Family Trust route).
Then sit back and wait 6 months for BATF to approve your paperwork.
Actually very easy.
I use one on my .22lr Ruger 10/22.

I love the woods to be quite. This is one reason I rarely gun hunt. However, as weird as this may sound, I like hearing others shoot??? :crazy: :crazy: :crazy:

So I guess I would love to have a suppressed deer rifle. I just hate to go through the paperwork and $$$. Also, would love to have a .22 suppressed. A friend has a Ruger 22/45 with a suppressor... it is soooooo much fun to shoot. :)

I've heard you can make the .22's "hollywood quiet", but what about the larger calibers? Can a 30-06 or .270 be "silenced"?

Anything that shoots above the speed of sound (1,126 fps) is going to make a sound as it breaks the sound barrier. So to answer your question, no a larger caliber can't be truly "silenced" unless you load your own subsonic rounds, which have a greatly reduced velocity and are therefore less effective and more prone to "tumble". However, its a WHOLE lot quieter with a suppressor. You can target shoot all day and not need ear plugs. My best friend as a .338 lapua with a gemtech suppressor, and its one of the top 5 coolest things I've ever played with.

In Iraq my buddy let me shoot his Mark-12 (16 with a match barrel and chromed out) with a suppressor and his subsonic rounds. It was then by definition a "silencer" and boys let me tell you, that thing was sweet. All you could hear was the bolt.
