INITIAL BURNDOWN: 32 ounces gly-4 ($3.50 per acre) and 8 ounces of DETONATE (GENERIC DICAMBA) ($2.75 per acre) - - -2017 date was March 28
FIELD PREP: field prep date for 2017 was April 18, 2017 - - - 24 ounces (generic Treflan) - $6.00 per acre - applied in front of (scratcher do-all)-Treflan has to be incorporated into soil-- I double scratch all fields
FERTILIZER: I fertilize once I have a stand of plants. If weather permits this year I want to fertilize before planting - - last year I fertilized with
160 pounds per acre of 45.8-0-0 and had excellent results
PLANTING: planting date for 2017 was May 8, 2017
John Deere 7100--4 row planter--planting speed is 5.8 MPH - - I am also spraying "PREMERGE" out back of planter as I plant
SEED: CROPLAN 7111 -- this is a short stature (38 - 40 inches tall at maturity) - - early maturity seed - -90 days to maturity - Hybird with Clearfield trait
I order this seed from our local MidSouth Farmers Co-op - - $376.00 per bag - - - 225,000 seed per bag - -
I plant an estimated 21,500 seed per acre - in theory this is a seed every 7.68 inches on 38 inch rows
PREMERGE: sprayed out of the back of the planter while I am planting
6 ounces of (Generic Spartan) - - ($10.31 per acre) - - 24 ounces of (Generic Duel) - - ($9.00 per acre)
2 ounces of (generic Insecticide) - - ($ 1.00 per acre) - - 42 ounces of (Generic Gramoxone) - - ($5.53 per acre)
PREMERGE: ALTERNATIVE PLAN - - sprayed out the back of the planter
"ZIDUA" - - 6.7 ounces per acre ($46.90) per acre. The ZIDUA will replace the generic spartan and generic duel as stated above
The Zidua as tested at Kansas State and shows keeping sunflowers clean for 90 days when applied at planting-- It will be a
a modern day MIRACLE if the Zidua works that well for me in West Tennessee
FIGHTING WEEDS aka TRYING TO KEEP THE FIELDS CLEAN: I inspect all fields every Sunday afternoon, mainly looking for weeds/grasses that have emerged
if I start to see something emerging I will spray 2 ounces of AIM Herbicide-($10.75 per acre) and
24 ounces of Generic Duel-($9.00 per acre) through my Hood spray rig. You can not spray the
AIM herbicide over the top of the plants
At this point there is nothing else that I do until the sunflowers are Mature, once mature I do my late summer burndown
LATE SUMMER BURNDOWN - - this is usually around August 7
32 ounces of Gly-4 - - - 8 ounces of Generic Dicamba - - - 0.50 ounces of Cimmaron Herbicide - - this mixture of chemical will
absolutely smoke anything that is alive in our Sunflower fields
BUSH HOGGING FIELDS: usually about 10 days after the late summer burndown. I have a 10 foot wide bush hog, I only make one pass around the perimeter of
every field and only one pass through the approximate center of each field. Our 5 fields average 5 to 7 acres per field
NOTE: IN ALL CHEMICAL APPLICATIONS I ADD 16 OUNCES OF "WET-SOL" PER 100 GALLONS OF MIXED CHEMICALS - - THIS IS A SURFACTANT AND WETTING AGENT
IF YOU SPRAY THE DICAMBA IN THE LATE SUMMER YOU MUCH CHECK CAREFULLY YOUR SURROUNDING CROPS. DICAMBA WILL DRIFT AND DO DAMAGE TO
NON DICAMBA CROPS. YOU WILL BE LIABLE FOR ANY/ALL DAMAGES. THERE HAS BEEN AT LEAST ONE MURDER IN ARKANSAS BECAUSE OF DICAMBA DRIFT
