It would depend on the age of the stand and if it's still safe. I know that they been selling Vipers for approx. 25 years.
You can get by and save money on a lot of hunting items. A Treestand is not one of them because it's a tool that helps but could also be very dangerous.
I had a buddy give me a free treestand in the early 90s. It was so dangerous climbing that I only used it a couple times. The price was right but you can't put a price on your health.

I've bought three off of Craigslist. Only one I was disappointed-I bought it from someone out of town and had a friend pick it up only to have it be a Classic.
I bought one for $100 that had never been on a tree once. The seat was installed backward, so I guess maybe he thought it wouldn't be the most comfortable. :D
