Yea I've never had any success blocking rows and planting corn or sunflowers w a haybuster. Seed spacing on the row is the issue

I plant my corn with a John Deere 4 row no til corn planter . I have a 3pt and hook my tractor to it and drive it up on a gooseneck and it's a heckuva mobile rig

Correct on the pods at that spacing .
My focus was not on pods though.

My focus was not on pods though.
We made plates for ours. You can also just tape them.
 
Here's my set up and the plastic spacers clip in nicely. I still can't get everything like I want it but it's operator error.

It's not that high.
All the deer are spread out because of most of the property for miles being cow pasture .
But this is the first yr so they will consolidate onto this farm when they find it. And get better and better
A lot of my plantings are for turkeys also
My wheat, sunflowers, oats , corn will be good for them.
I have a 3 yr plan on my plantings then I will adjust based on how high the density gets or don't get .
I will also convert a lot of the beans/peas to clover going forward. But I wanted a summer plot
