I was wanting to get some opinions on what I should focus on for our property this summer? I know it should also go in the QDM forum but I wanted other opinions as well. I know cover is key but if I wanted to plant a large number of trees what kind would you plant. The majority of the land is under CRP, what am I legally allowed to do on land that is under CRP. My parents are over the land, however I mainly keep it up and im still pretty young. Any suggestions?

Technically, you cannot do anything on land in CRP, except for what is stated in the CRP contract. However, you can talk with FSA (Farm Service Agency) to see what options might be available. From time to time, they do allow landowners to modify existing contracts if it doesn't compromise the intended purpose of the program. If they allow a modification to the current contract, you willl more than likely work with one of our NRCS employees to make the allowable changes.

What county is your property in?

That's what I figured as my parents told me the same thing. The land is located in Lawrence County. We have a creeks, ponds, mature hardwoods, and rolling wooded ridges; however I'm wanting to try to find a way to benefit the deer habitat better just not sure how.
