Just back from Colorado with a decent and representative of the area antelope. Hunt ended before noon opening day(last Saturday),trespass fee, unguided, a mile from my vehicle. Still have a slightly skinned knee and some cactus thorns from my stalk in totally open country! Only saw two antelope, the buck and the doe that it was with, but I suppose that was plenty. I'm proud of the hunt(other than some less than top notch shooting), and if you knew my age, I suspect that you would be proud of me too! lol
A buddy of mine, just returned from the Colorado mountains with a cow elk that he arrowed. Took him 9 points to get into the unit(I now have 5 pointing toward the same unit, a real optomist!).
Hunting in the Rio Grande National forest, DIY.
Another buddy of mine is out there by himself for the rifle opener this morning.
So age really doesn't matter that much in our sport.
Just get out there amongst 'em!
 
Me and Quiver are leaving Wed. for the Colorado 2nd rifle. Will report results when we get back.

Didn't take any pictures(not much of a picture person), but am having fun turning the horns into a trophy for the wall. Worked on it this afternoon, and if you have never tried to the horns off the core, you are in for an experience. This is my third one, and it is a big time chore. You work and you pry, and after many tries and sometimes several days they finally pop off.
 
Postsript:
My 72 year old buddy killed a 5 X 5 yesterday morning in a unit that is not considered to be very good, does not have much demand, and is therefore easy to draw. Which goes to show you, the elks be where you find them, which is very rarely in your yard! Can you say, get out there amongst em?
 
Hunted second season rifle in area 80. Second day of hunt killed a 3x4 and packed it out on our back 3 miles to the trail head with my dad (60 yrs old) and a good friend (61 yrs old). Needless to say I had to make three trips myself (35 yrs old).
 
I RECENTLY RETURNED FROM IDAHO FOR AN ELK HUNT...WE HAD A GREAT TIME BUT BEWARE OF THE WOLVES...WE HUNTED IDAHO 3 YEARS AGO AND SEEN 80 ELK IN 3 DAYS AND THIS YEAR WE ONLY SEEN 4 ELK IN 5 DAYS...THE REASON IS THE WOLVES...WE HAD WOLF TRACKS GOING IN AND OUT EVERYDAY...OUR PARTNER KILLED A NICE 6X6 AND WAS FOLLOWED OUT BY WOLVES BOTH TRIPS...HOPE THEY OPEN THE SEASON ON THE WOLVES SOON...THEY ARE KILLING MY ELK...HAD TWO 6X6 AT 30 YARDS 2 DIFFERENT TIMES BUT COULDN'T KILL...CAN'T WAIT FOR NEXT YEAR..
