Success With Scents? PreRut

With the PreRut starting to kick in here I'm looking forward to next weeks Muzzleloader hunt in the Cherokee NF. As a lot of you guys know I've been scouting pretty hard this past week and have been able to find some pretty good spots with numerous rubs and scrapes several miles from the closest road. I've been bouncing back in forth about putting some Tink 69 scent bombs out while hunting next week. I normally don't put out scents this early and especially on public land but I'm debating on putting some out considering I'll be in a very remote area that hasn't had any human pressure. I may even do a little light rattling. I say all this to ask the question, how successful have you guys been using Scents during the PreRut? Do you guys recommend it or is it too early? I thought I might be able to draw in a curious buck.

Never had much luck with scents. Had few small bucks come in to it but overall don't think much of them.

My results have basically been the same. The only time I have had any luck with them has been right in the middle of peak rut.

I used a lot of scents for the first 30 years I hunted and I drew in quite a few deer. I only remember 2 big, mature bucks falling for them over that time period. All else were young bucks.

Ive tried about everything the last 35 yrs and scents have shown only limited success. That said you could definitely have deer come in and investigate scents if you catch one in the right mood. I just wouldn't put too much faith in them, especially if its a mature buck your after.

I had a 4.5 year old come in to some code blue estrous in 2012. The only other scent I've used is pre-orbital gland scent from Smokey's and I've had GREAT results with it.
