Daddy has a Lapua 338 Lapua case stuck in his Redding body die,,with a hot primer in it,I have the stuck case removal kit that you have to drill a hole and tap the case,,
would you try and knock the live primer out,or fill the case with Kroil or something to kill the primer before drilling???
 
If the sizer die is open at the top so that you can get a deprimer tool down into it then just tap it out from the top. Would be best to kill it with Kroil or WD 40 or some such. I have deprimed some primed cases on occasion with no issues but safety first. Tell him to use some lubricant next time-lol. PH
 
I bet he was using Hornady 'one-shot' lube? That stuff has stuck more cases in my dies than ALL others combined. He can send the die to redding and they will remove the stuck case free of charge.
 
I have drilled and tapped quiet a few and they just pop out using the RCBS stuck case removal tool,,I just never had to deal with the live primer,,

I think I will fill it full of Kroil and let it sit a couple days and try to take a decapping rod from another die and see if I can knock it out,,

he uses the RCBS lube on the pad,,with the size of the Lapua brass I am gonna guess the case was on one end or the other and didnt get a complete coverage of lube all the way around,,

I use the Hornady on 223 that I just neck size and the Lee white looking lube on anything I am FL sizing.
 
If you got what I think you do, I don't think I would want to put kroil or any kind of oil in it. If that primer was to go off when knocking out air would mix with the oil and you know what could happen. I would use something else or nothing would be better than any kind of oil. Just my two cents.
