anyone striper fish around east tn? I am thinking about getting in to it. My boat is pretty much set up for it, I have a deep V walk through windshield with a 200 merc and a 7.5 kicker and a downrigger, but I don't know what I am doing. any tips from you guys who do it all the time?

Cherokee Lake with live shad. Fish them down under the boat at night while using lights while anchored off points.I use a size 1/0 or 2/0 hook with a 1 1/2 oz sinker. If you like to fish in the fall, fish the mouths of creeks with spooks, redfins, bucktail jigs in the evenings until dark.

The area around Cherokee Dam is great but is now off limits for fishing until Sept 15. Trolling a U-rig can get some big strippers right before it is shut down on July 15.

If you have a down rigger this is what I would do. Whatever lake you are gonna fish, ease around and try to mark some schools on your depth finder. What you will be looking for is a bunch of baitfish with some bigger fish mixed in and they will usually appear to be stacked up on your screen. This time of year they should be between 20 ft and 30 to 35 ft of water usually suspended over deeper main channel water. Go to bait shop and get you some white doll flys, some white U-tail grubs to go on the doll flys, and some of those storm swim shad. We have been using the chart. shad. If you have one rigger and want to run two rods you will need a double clip for the cable. Put doll fly on one rod and shad on the other. Put both rods down to desired depth and just troll. You should eventually hang a big rock or smallmouth. The SM like them shad. Hope that helps.

Live bait works good too but is more trouble. We usually run alewives on planer boards trolled with the lectric motor.
