OK,I have some new loc ons and I want to get some new straps and then put on some chains.Where is the best place to buy those cinch type straps for cimbing steps and loc ons?

Depending on how long you are leaving them up? Use chains if you aren't taking them down. Buy the 1000lbs ratchet straps if you as taking them down after season at TSC, I use the 500lbs straps on the sticks or If you are handy you can easily put the ladder sticks up with climbing rope and save some coin. You can use a strap on the top stick if that would make you feel more comfortable

What kind of chain do you guys use or is more of a theft deterrent. I've contemplated doing that with mine but not sure how to go that route

the turnbuckles are my issue. The smaller ones aren't rated for much. When you get to turnbuckles rated high they won't fit a smaller chainImThere":2atn04pz said:

If your cheap like me you can get some longish grade 8 bolts, washers, nuts and pinch the chain and tighten the bolt down and it will do the same thing. I wish I had some pics to demonstrate.Jcalder":2dnr234l said:

I think I understand with the bolts and nuts. Doubt you could get it as tight this way but would be worth looking it. On my stands there's wires running from just under the seat to the platform. I could replace those bolts for longer ones and add the chain there. But the turnbuckles is what has stopped me. They aren't rated but for 90 pounds or so at that size. I haven't seen 90 pounds since I was in the 1st grade lolImThere":e57qdgc8 said:

As far as a ladder stand goes I think a turnbuckle would be fine. You're holding the stand in place. Not up in the tree like a loc on is.

I finally got around to trying this with the chain today. 2 setups. First worked great. The second not so much. The biggest issue I had was I ran out of threads on the bolts. I probably shouldn't have used as long of bolts as I did but I'm not sure it would matter. The second set I tried different links in the chain. One wouldn't draw it tight and the next link I couldn't get the nut on. I'm also running washers on both sides. I need to talk to my fastenal buddy and see what he can get meImThere":dof4xs98 said:

Yeah you will need to carry a few different lengths of bolts and washers. It's easier to have a long bolt and use more washersJcalder":36dvp94x said:
First one feel solid? It will tighten up over the years and either grow in to the tree or break with the pressure of the tree growing so you will need to keep an eye on that
