I have a Savage model 10 in 308. I'm going to give
It has a 24 inch heavy barrel, but has a synthetic stock. I'm looking to start doing some long range stuff. Any suggestions for the stock?
I'm thinking about duracoating the barreled action, probably Magpul flat dark earth.

My honest suggestion is to find people that have after market stocks and see what you like the best. I have and have shot with most chassis's, manners, McMillan, bell and Carlson, HS precision and AG composites. I have my favorites but that doesn't mean they will fit your bill. Also, price range is important.
 
I'm pretty sure I remember seeing somewhere that McMillan had stopped doing Savage. I have an HS Precision and like it. I also have an Oryx chassis that is nice, but the action I was going to use in it didn't work with an AICS magazine.

I have two B&C stocks both of which date back to the 1980's.
They have none of the adjustability of modern day stocks.

However

Carried both in Colorado and California in really cold nasty weather. Hunted California valleys and same day driven high into mountains no accuracy issues. Both have been handled shall we say roughly.

Still using both, still shooting accurate. Killed my biggest deer and elk with one. One has killed about 50 Tennessee and California does and at least 40 piggies.

Hard for me to recommend anything else since I never had a need to upgrade.
 
Investing right now is a good idea, imo, because things are down, it's like buying them on sale.
Things are surely going to go back up one day, and that's when the money you invested will grow like crazy.
