Please read and give me some help with a stock recommendation. Listing gun specs and shooting purpose and accessories on gun.
Gun: Early 80s REM 700BDL 30-06 Fajen stock, Rem original trigger (that's was gunsmith worked years ago) Scope Redfield revolution 3x9-40, rings and base not sure what they are. No bipod or rails, no open sights. Standard sporter barrel.
Replacement parts on hand: Trigger Tech trigger (1.5-4lb adjustable single stage). Leupold 3X-i 3.5x10-40, Leupold QWR rem700 base(2piece), Leupold QWR quick release 1inch rings.
BOLT and floorplate: Original bolt is extremely smooth same with internal magazine and floorplate---no replacement parts on hand for those.
What I shoot: mainly in 150-180 gr range and mainly hunting (deer) -- no really nat ass target or tactical applications.
Me: 6'2" mid 50s and mainly hunt with this gun and do sight ins each year. Some plinking with 150gr when I got family/friends wanting to go shooting. The gun is Right Hand, but I am LEFT handed. I have shot right handed guns since I was a kid so no issue there for me shooting a RH bolt action. Actually now when I buy bolt action I don't even look to see if there is a left handed model. Maybe short sighted, but I have never got to shoot a LH bolt action to see what I am missing. I got my system worked out for bolt working and next round.
Why I want to change stock (all the other items are just upgrades I have purchased): I have owned this gun for 30yrs never really like the stock but took deer with it enjoyed shooting it a few rounds etc. Now that I am upgrading all the other items I want to get rid of the fajen stock. Gun I got with the stock and old redfield partner scope. I put the Redfield revolution on it 3yrs or so ago. Until that no changes were made to this gun...now I want to make it mine.
Stock I would like to have: A traditional hunting stock (no tactical) FULL aluminum bedding, no right hand cheek piece, good pistol grip style, free floated and 700 BDL drop in.
This gun and I have a lot of history. Been in the family along time, and I have hunted with it since I was in my 20s. But it sorely needs a stock, I think I got the other items covered. And by rook or crook...I have 2 LEFT HANDED hunting adult children, that I trained(as youngsters) the same as me on working with RH bolt action. My first RH bolt action I actually still have my first guns a single shot bolt action REM 22 and Mossberg .410 bolt action---guess what my kids first shot for a bolt action and they hunted with them too same as me. They both can whip around this REM700 pretty dang good now, along with a couple of other bolt actions I have.
So give me some stock recommendations for the early 80s REM 700 BDL 30-06
Thanks
Tony
