I am building a semi custom rifle off of my 700 action. What stock do u guys recommend? HS precision, bell and carlson or McMillan? The McMillan is supposed to be the best but $550 for a stock seems like a lot!

I've got a couple Bell and Carlsons and a few HS Precisions. If you're shooting for a lightweight gun you'll want the B&C. If you want a really stiff stock then the HS or McMillian is your best bet. You pretty much get what you pay for with aftermarket stocks. The more you pay, the better the stock.

If your buying new. For the money I would go with the B&C w/ full aluminum bedding block. McMillan is nice but most can't justify the price. If you don't mind waiting, check Snipershide after the first of the year. You can find new HS Precision take offs for around 150.00

The McMillan is very nice, esp if you bed it.

But HS stocks are good for the money.

The B&C are hit and miss... some are the best stocks you can buy at that price range up to $200 more, some are just junk.

What exactly are you building?

I have a factory 700 sps ss 243 that I would like to have the action blueprinted, out on a 6.5 mm barrel and chamber it for 260. I would like to buy a surgeon or defiance action but $1200 is a little out of the price range

There are deals to be had out there...

last 4 B&C stocks I bought were takeoffs from the discontinued Rem 700 mountain titanium rifles... paid $70 each for them new

Last 2 Mcmillans I bought for $325 new from McMillan's website... those deals are harder to find nowadays, however.

I have a hard time finding deals on the HS takeoffs... I've had more luck buying rifles with HS stocks at great prices and selling off the barreled actions. I have a few HS stocks currently I have a tad over $100 into that way.
