I saw probably 9 or 10 deer today while carrying the shotgun around looking for squirrels and enjoying my afternoon off work...

gotta wonder when this will end... I still want to be deer hunting sometimes, I'm wondering if I haven't been ruined. Looking forward to turkey season but haven't gotten "in the mood" for turkeys like I still am for deer. Been shed hunting already and found an old broken-off antler. but when I get into deer country and see all the fresh sign, I just want to set up there with my bow and wait for a deer to sneak by. I keep playing shots inside my head.

Oh well I guess it will pass soon enough. I just need some warmer weather and that smell that the air gets when spring is coming. That, and some gobbling birds... I've about had all the cold I can get, tired of my hands freezing even with gloves, ready for the warmer weather. Just gotta try and shake off that last bit of deer fever or whatever it is. Anyone in the same boat? Oh speaking of boats, I need a few things to patch all the leaks and then she's ready to go fishing again. When the weather warms up. Didn't last 10 minutes last time I went fishing, cold wind killed my fingers instantly.
 
I never get out of the deer hunting mood just find things to keep me busy til next season. but I am ready for turkey for turkey season to start.
 
squirrel hunting is meant to be done with a 22 rifle. put down that scattergun and work on killing a limit with your rifle and you will forget all about deer. it is a fun challenge
 
Yep, im the same. So i squirrel hunt and target shoot a lot every year after deer season.
My friends just across the stateline in MS are still deer hunting. I may get an out of state MS license next year and give it a try.
On the other hand, i am aware of how much money i lose every year by sitting in a tree rather than sitting at work. I also admit Im glad to get life back to normal after 3 months of hunting hard.

If it wasn't for turkey season (and I'm bad at it) I'd have withdrawels from deer season much more. I like to fish, turkey hunt, small game hunt, etc but for me it all takes a backseat to deer hunting, deer scouting and the fall season

I agree the 22 is fun...but a walk in the woods with a shotgun is too.

Deer mode never leaves me. I like other stuff but I'm always thinking and prepping for the next season. Gla d you got the bug catman.

Agreed....and it will help make you a better rifle shot for deer too.
 
I hear you. Driving through Hendersonville, there must have been 25 does sitting next to the Walmart at 9AM'ish this morning. I stopped, parked the truck and just watched them for 20 minutes as they slowly filtered into some thickets.

I love watching and hunting deer.
 
Im right there with yall. Looking forward tofishing, but i feel almost depressed not being able to hunt deer. I go crazy with nothing to do.

I was shed hunting a few days ago and bumped a small buck with 1 side. They are dropping
 
I know what u mean but this time of year is a great time 2 scout, move stands, plan trips n off days from work never 2 early 2 think about this coming season

yes I have already been doing some post season scouting, shed hunting, trail cams, etc
 
A good fishing trip with 70+ degree weather wipes my deer hunting bug right out. I can't stand hunting when it's warm, so spring weather is a good cure.

That's the same reason why I don't go crazy for turkey hunting...it's usually too hot and buggy for me to get into it.
 
I would deer hunt year round if they would let me. My wife may not like it but I geuss she could learn to go with rather than sit at the house every time I go!
