Stevens Model 87D questions...

Father in law gave us his old Stevens Model 87D. It's stamped for .22 short, long and long rifle. It needs to be oiled and cleaned well.

However, when I tried to work the bolt, it was stuck, except for when I removed removed the bolt innards and freed the insides. Anyone know much about these rifles?

I've got one, can't reallly tell you much about it though, except it has a 100% FTE rate. Well made barrel, I use it as a single-shot.

the bolt knob when pushed in acts as a bolt lock, just pull outward on the bolt knob to work the action. I assumed that the bolt lock was for firing with short's (making i a single shot) as most autos will not eject short's, except for my Remington Spedmaster which will cycle short's all day long. Another goofy thing about the 87D is the safety seems to be in reverse in my opinion. When mine is in the forward position it is on safe, when in th rearward position it is on fire, kind of confusing.

As I recall the bolt lock was for single shot period if all is functioning well it will cycle shorts.
