Just out of curiosity, anybody ever caught a state record fish here or in any other state, the closest I've came is a 100 pound blue cat, buddy of mind caught the Mississippi state record spotted gar, I was with him, we had pics of it on a certified scale and everything but could not reach any official people and forgot to take measurements.
 
I am pretty sure I have caught the state record pumkinseed at least a few times. I have a river I fish on occasion that is full of them.
 
when the record was 1 lb 12 oz, i had a buddy throw back a 2 lb 9 oz yellow bass. he was sick when i told him. i have caught the state record skipjack several times but never wanted that record.

Sandy had two line class world records a 7# 4oz. smallmouth on 4# line and a 38# flathead on 4# .

Both have been broke .

I had a 7# 2oz smallmouth on 4# test. I didn't know there was even a line class. Of course it doesn't matter since they are now broken anyways but, I could have been close. LOL!!

If you caught the state record skipjack, then would'nt that be the world record also?!? I thought TN held the world record for skippies?

looking in the fishing guide, yes it is. i may reconsider for a world record. :cool:
 
I handled a probable state record blue cat once. I helped an old gentleman land a huge beast below Chickamauga Dam a few years back. He was by himself. he had the fish whipped but couldn't get it in the boat. He waved me down as I was running up the river and I helped him heave the beast into his boat. I've handled lots of big cats and knew this one was over 100.

He carried it off and when I saw him on the river a few days later I asked if he found a place to weigh it.

He says, "Yea, a buddy of mine has deer scales. We put it on there and it weighed 116."

"Good grief... 116," I said. "You know that we be a new state record don't you."

To which he answered with disdain, "Ahh... I don't care about that s%^t."
 
I have two walleyes that measured out at 33.5 and 34.375 inchs with over 22 in girths. They tipped the scales at 16 and 17 lbs but, the other night I saw the biggest walleye that I've ever laid eyes upon. This guy appeared to be WELL over 36 inches so if he only had a 22 inch girth as well that would put him pushing the scales at 22-23 lbs and the world record is 25 lb. I snapped a picture of him on my cell phone as he followed my plug around and around the boat. I actually thought it was a muskie when I first saw his silette in the boat light. There is a report (we know how that goes) that a guy caught, landed and then ate the world record walleye from this very lake. Who knows.

One night a friend hooked the biggest smallie that I've ever saw. I personally have never landed a smallie over 7.2 but, have laid my hands on two officially weighed 9.5 and a 10 lb smallie. The smallie that my friend hooked was in that category. HUGE. He broke his rod beating the water when it come off. I asked him if he felt any better after that. LOL!!
 
We have come real close to some bowfishing records. I really think it is just a matter of time till we break the shortnose gar record.

Same here. I am positive I had the State record spotted gar last year and I was unable to get it in the boat, sounds like a fish story I know, but I tend to underestimate poundage, and I swear it was 10 lb +.

While bowfishing at night, we see some monster game fish..ie bass, stripers, wallye, and rainbows. We ran up on a school of huge stripers one night that were in <2' of water, they were eating and chasing 12-15" rainbow trout. I've seen some big stripers, but those were the biggest I have ever seen.period.

Most fisherman would never believe the size of the fish that are in some of the places we shoot. Neat thing about it, is to me, the fish always tend to look smaller than what they actually are under the lights, so there's no telling how big they are! Too bad we can't shoot'em!
